Wanderers boss Neil Lennon was racing against the clock to try to add to his ranks last night ahead of tonight's trip to MK Dons.

Lennon revealed after Saturday's defeat at Middlesbrough he hoped the imminent sale of Tim Ream to Fulham would allow him to bring in two new faces.

He confirmed at his pre-match press conference he expected the signing of Italian right-back Francesco Pisano to go through today but too late for tonight's first-ever visit to stadium:mk with reports in Italy suggesting a two-year deal was all-but done.

But he was also hoping to have an unnamed striker/winger on a season-long loan in time to face the Dons.

Speculation suggested that target could be 22-year-old Arsenal forward Wellington Silva, the Brazilian having penned a new deal at the Emirates last month and in need of first-team football.

The club remained tight-lipped yesterday on the identity of the potential new face as they tried to get the paperwork completed.

But Lennon said if the deal could get done it would strengthen their options up front and he was hoping that would be in time for tonight's trip.

He told The Bolton News: "It is a season-long loan when it gets done.

"He is a winger/striker and will add a bit of pace and quality to what we are trying to do.

"We need that with Zach (Clough) not being fit to start and Gary (Madine) having a groin strain at the weekend.

"Gary had a scan on Sunday which proved it is his groin but we are hoping we can get him fit for tonight.

"Max Clayton is still a couple of weeks away so we look a little bit light up there."

The lack of any official announcement as The Bolton News went to press last night will have concerned fans but Lennon was more positive on Pisano's arrival and what he will bring to the team.

The Whites boss added: "We are hoping Pisano will be in but that may not be in time for the game.

"We are more or less there with negotiations and I’m pleased about that.

"He is an experienced player at 29. He’s athletic and had a long career in Serie A.

"He will suit the way we want to play and that will make us better and augment the squad which is what we want to do.

"It will give us more strength in depth and a bit of experience in the squad as well which I think we are lacking just a little bit.

"It will freshen things up as well."

One new face has arrived at the club in the shape of Carlisle's former Manchester City defender Courtney Meppen-Walter who has arrived on a trial basis.
