Just reading through the morning papers one or two interesting snippets have been reported. Not only has Ream had a weeks trial with us but he has also had a week with West Brom.

He is currently on £36,000 a year ( yes, you read correctly ) with the Red Bulls in the MLS. Cahill is reported to be on £40,000 per week.

Chelsea's initial offer was £60,000 a week with a five year contract. Cahill's agent allegedly argued for £120,000 per week which is still substantially less than the top earners like Lampard, Terry, Cole and Drogba.

Chelsea have now made an improved offer of £80,000 per week which is double Cahill's current wages.

It looks like Ream is a relatively cheap option but who is to say that he wont go to West Brom ? It could come down to which club offers him the best financial deal.

I think the reason WBA never followed up there interest in Ream was because they wanted him on loan but his club would only allow him to leave if someone bought him.

That would leave us the only club in the running to sign him unless WBA do decide to pay 2.5miilion.

As for Cahill, I would lose some respect for him if he thought 80k a week wasn't a good enough offer.

Half the problem is the bloody agents. The better the deal they get for their client, the more commission they make.

When Alan Sugar was Chairman of Spurs he made a few choice comments about agents none of which are printable on here. He was right.

Aye I think the only professional footballer I know in recent years to never have an agent was paul scholes and according to a few united fans I know, he always said I am in a bad state of affairs if I can't sort out my own future.

Rarely I agree with a united player but he has a point.

If Ream comes to us, I only hope he is worth it as reports have been "variable" - with more than a few suggesting he is a complete donkey.

Hardly think £36k a week (or more if he needs to be tempted away from NYRB) is a bargain. Would have liked to have seen what the young Dutch guy wanted as he looks a better player and is younger.

Cheap as chips for a Premier club like us!

That's peanuts for a pro footballer. He must be even crapper than they're suggesting.affraid Only this portuguese emoticon amply expresses my amazement!

I don't think anyone's mentioned that he's left footed (I think he is, anyway).

I wonder if he's any good at full back.

He's "the most expensive American defender in history". How bad could he really be?
