Wanderers fell to a narrow defeat away at Peterborough United on Sunday afternoon.

Michael Smith's wondergoal proved the difference on the day at the expense of the Whites, who lost goalkeeper Mark Howard to injury early on in proceedings at the ABAX Stadium.

Speaking to bwfc.co.uk after the final whistle, manager Phil Parkinson covered the following points…

On his side's performance...
All in all, we’re disappointed today. It’s always frustrating to lose a game of football. We were poor in the first half and it was a lacklustre display.

We were second best and it’s not often I can say that – especially in this recent run. We were off the pace for whatever reason in the first half.

We spoke to the lads about how quickly we had started in previous away victories, taking the impetus away from the home team. Today we were on the back-foot too much.

We weren’t bright enough with our play and got punished by a very good goal.

We improved considerably in the second half and the game opened up. We got in some good positions but we couldn’t find that moment of quality to get us back in the game.

On losing Mark Howard to injury and Ben Alnwick's league debut...
Mark has been in exceptional form but Ben is a very good goalkeeper.

There is always an element of disruption when you lose a player early, especially the goalkeeper. It’s not ideal.

Ben played well on Tuesday and it is always tough coming off the bench. We say to all the players you have to be ready – you never know when you’re going to be needed.

On a lack of clear-cut chances...
We didn’t work the goalkeeper enough. In recent weeks we have done. In the past we have been a lot more creative in our play and tested the opposition goalkeeper.

Today, for whatever reason we weren’t able to do that, but we know that and will be looking for a response.

On his squad's strength in depth...
You can only pick 18 players. There are always lads that don’t make the cut and we have Jay Spearing back for next week.

He should be back training on Monday so that will give us a huge lift.

And finally, on needing to bounce back against Millwall...
Defeats happen along the way. You have to respond to them and we will do this week in training and get ready for next week.

We need to get our performance levels back to where they have been in recent weeks. If we do that, we’ll have a great chance of winning.
