Two goals from the Iranian striker ensured Bolton overcame their Hull City counterparts at The County Ground on Monday night.

With the weather conditions dampening the playing surface, both sides struggled to keep hold of possession in the opening minutes. The first chance of the game, however, would fall the way of Jeff King. The midfielder danced his way through the Hull defence before his cross was scrambled away.

Fresh off the back of his first team appearance, Max Clayton tried his luck from outside the box, the power was taken off his shot by the dampening conditions and Mannion collected easily.

Hull, determined to get a foothold in the game drove forwards through Olley. The Tigers’ frontman cut onto his left foot, however, was denied superbly by Jaaskelainen.

With Wanderers’ in full control, Wilkinson was next to try his luck. Jinxing his way across the box, he pulls the trigger only for his strike to be blocked. Clayton reacted quickest to hook the ball towards goal, unfortunately, his volley ends up wide of the near post.

With rare venture into the final third, it looked as if Hull City would take the lead. Annan’s looping cross found Hinchliffe unmarked at the back post. It looked certain the winger would give the visitors the lead, however, he somehow put wide from two yards out.

The Tigers found a foothold in the game and after a well-worked passing move had the ball in the back of the net. Olley, however, was denied by the offside glad, keeping the scores level.

SECOND HALF

With neither side taking control of the second-half it took until the hour mark for the first real chance of the half. Spooner and Clayton combined well down the left before Wilkinson's enticing cross found Samizadeh at the back post. The Iranian repaid the quality of the delivery, tapping home into a vacated net, giving David Lee’s side the lead.

The goal injected life into the City attack and on 70 minutes they had their best chance of the half. Ter Horst found Luer inside the box, however, he failed to test Jaaskelainen in the Bolton net.

Jeff King had the chance to extend Wanderers’ lead with a free-kick. Opting for a low, driven effort his attempt was deflected wide for a corner that amounted to Hull regaining possession.

With the game firmly in Wanderers’ hands, Samizadeh found the net for the second time, receiving the ball on the edge of the box, the striker turned his marker before finding the top corner with a spectacular finish.

Meanwhile, at the other end, Jeff King’s curling free-kick flew narrowly over the crossbar.
