Will the USA go to war with North Korea?

Like most people I never for a minute thought they would but they have just gone to the United Nations saying this -

The US envoy to the UN has urged the Security Council to take the "strongest possible measures" against North Korea after its latest nuclear test.

"The time has come to exhaust all diplomatic means before it is too late," Nikki Haley told an emergency meeting of the council in New York.

Ms Haley said North Korean leader Kim Jong-un had shown through his actions that he was "begging for war".

"War is never something the United States wants," she said. "We don't want it now but our country's patience is not unlimited."

Also don't forget we DID end up having a war with Saddam over his Weapons of Mass Destruction.

And to top it all off we have Trump as the President of the United States (POTUS).

So just more sabre rattling or will we soon see things escalating in a bad way for us all?

Yes - North Korea have ignored all warnings and have continued with the threats and testing missiles, so something has to be done.

The last time the UN and USA attacked North Korea, China got involved and won!!!

I can't see anything happening without China's approval.

How frightening is it to have 2 headcases in charge of the 2 countries? War now means nuclear and millions of deaths on both sides, so someone needs to tell Donald to try the art of diplomacy before it's too late.

That's the point though - the US envoy at the UN is saying they've done about all they can with diplomacy -

"Only the strongest sanctions will enable us to resolve this problem through diplomacy," Ms Haley said.
"We have kicked the can down the road long enough. There is no more road left."
She was speaking after US President Donald Trump warned the US might consider stopping all trade with any country doing business with North Korea.
"The United States will look at every country that does business with North Korea as a country that is giving aid to their reckless and dangerous nuclear intentions," Ms Haley said.
The British ambassador to the UN, Matthew Rycroft, said direct talks with North Korea were only possible if Pyongyang stopped the escalation.
"Dialogue will always be our end goal but returning to dialogue without a serious sign of intent from Pyongyang would be a set-up to failure," he said. "North Korea must change course to allow a return to dialogue."

Unlikely to be a shooting war, if you believe some experts North Korea has enough conventional weapons (never mind possible nukes) to flatten Seoul in a matter of hours, and would have enough left to do the job following any type of military intervention from the US.

Effectively they have a human shield made up of a city of 10 million people.

If it does turn into a shoot out then the US would have to be sure they could take out the North Korean leader and then hope to god that the next man in the seat does not retaliate.

Wasn't the obvious option to shoot the test missiles down as soon as they left North Korean airspace then? That would have sent them back to the drawing board.

The US will probably see what can be done by Japan and S. Korea before getting involved directly, and yes, the missiles, in theory, can be taken out once launched.

But in the article it says they can only shoot a limited amount down, so a few much cheaper dummy missiles can be sent first to get around this defense

You don't need a war to stop this......all that needs to be done is an organized take out of that lunatic. With the Chinese & Russians on board have a coup to put in a more friendly government in power.  Or a direct hit on the palace etc. along with a same day take out of all suspected bomb making facilities. A replacement for Kim would be the best solution obviously.
