WANDERERS are hoping to beat Barnsley and Portsmouth to the punch to land striker Victor Adeboyejo.

The 19-year-old Nigeria-born front man has been training with Chelsea after leaving Leyton Orient in the summer.

He has impressed Wanderers’ talent spotters and could now be brought in on a trial basis, featuring in David Lee’s Under-23s over the coming weeks.

Adeboyejo is looking to re-establish his career after opting to leave Orient following their relegation from the Football League last season.

After starting in Arsenal’s academy, he moved on to Wimbledon and Charlton before turning professional at Brisbane Road and making his first team debut aged just 16.

He spent three years in the O’s first team and made 15 senior appearances, spending much of his time out on work experience loan with the likes of Margate, Heybridge Swifts and Dulwich Hamlet.

Wanderers are one of a handful of teams who want a closer look at the pacy youngster, with other offers in the Championship and Leagues One and Two.

The club are keen to add numbers at Under-23 level and have scoured for young free agents who have worked with top clubs who could potentially come in for a trial.

The Whites have also taken a good look at midfielder Chris Regis, who was released by Colchester United at the end of last season, and was once on the books of Arsenal and Southampton.

Ogo Obi, the ex-Watford striker, was also given an extended run in the development squad but failed to impress in the long run.

Phil Parkinson has turned his attention to this weekend’s visit of QPR looking forward to another profitable week on the training ground with his players.

Will Buckley, Aaron Wilbraham and Derik Osede should re-join the group with Jem Karacan also in contention for a place in the squad, having sat out the victory over Sheffield Wednesday because of a family bereavement.

“There’s still a lot of work to be done,” said the Wanderers boss. “We’ve got the result we wanted, which has given us a boost, but there are players we need to bring right up to speed now.

Can Ken afford a new barrel?

Because the one we've got appears to have had its bottom scraped out.
