Wanderers’ Under-23s made it back-to-back league victories by running out winners away at Huddersfield Town on Monday afternoon.

The home side had almost opened the scoring early on as Collin Quaner skipped past his marker on the right and cut the ball back for Olly Dyson, but the Town man couldn’t make clean contact with the ball and skewed his effort wide.

Jordan Thomas was next to go close for the home side as Jack Boyle picked him with a clever through ball, but his thunderous shot across goal was well saved by Jake Turner.

The Terriers were then reduced to ten-men shortly after the half-hour mark however as keeper Ryan Schofield was adjudged to have handled the ball outside the area by referee Rebecca Welsh, while his replacement – Tadhg Ryan, immediately made a smart save from the resulting free-kick to keep the scores level at the break.

Following the restart however, the opening goal came six minutes into the second half and came following some good link-up play between Dennis Politic and Matthew Fearnley, with the latter firing home.

The home side rallied in a bid to level proceedings and were awarded a penalty as Regan Booty was deemed to have been pulled down in the box, but the Terriers youngster saw his spot-kick saved by Turner who got down well to his left.

And boosted by their let-off, the Whites went straight up the other end of the pitch and doubled their advantage through Cole Lonsdale who placed the ball under Ryan to make sure of the result for David Lee’s youngsters.
