Phil Parkinson reckons referee Oliver Langford should have awarded his side THREE penalties against Barnsley – but found it difficult to hold a grudge.

The Wanderers boss found his frustration eased by three points at the Macron but said the score-line could have been more convincing had decisions gone their way.

“We should have had three penalties,” he said. “We had one where Josh knocked it past the defender and he’s been absolutely wiped out, one where Will Buckley ran through on the left and got pulled back, which was a penalty, and the one we got was as clear as you’re ever likely to see. The lad launched him.

“There were some strange calls but the ref’s always been okay when we’ve won, so I don’t’ mind it too much.”

When told of Parkinson’s view on the three penalty calls, Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom joked: “He could have had three penalties, the way Ollie was refereeing today.”

Tykes full-back Jason McCarthy also believes the first-half spot kick which was awarded to Bolton for a foul by Liam Lindsay on Buckley, was incorrect.

“I was very close to [the Bolton penalty incident] and it looked like Liam [Lindsay] didn’t touch their player, but it’s all just fine margins.,” he told Barnsley’s official website.

“In the second half alone, we had seven shots on target and they had one shot which went in, and that sums the afternoon up,” McCarthy said after the final whistle in Greater Manchester.

“They made use of both boxes better, defending and then taking their chances. Their goalkeeper was brilliant today, they defended their box better than us, and then we didn’t take the chances we created.”

Nine yellow cards were dished out, four for Bolton, five for the visitors.
