Wanderers missed out on the chance to extend the gap between themselves and the Sky Bet Championship relegation zone after losing away at Cardiff City on Tuesday night.

With only one away victory to their names so far this season, the Whites were second-best against the promotion-hopefuls as first-half goals from Armand Traore and Sean Morrison sealed the points.

Reflecting on the game after the final whistle, manager Phil Parkinson covered the following points...

On his side’s performance…

We’re disappointed with the first half. All the basic things you need to do at a place like Cardiff we didn’t do as well as we needed to. We were better in the second half and restored some pride.

Cardiff are a strong team, especially on their home patch. It was a difficult game for us tonight.

We’re disappointed not to get something from the game. We need to dust ourselves down, regroup and get ready for the weekend.

On Cardiff City…

Cardiff have got a lot of attributes. At times they overpowered us which is disappointing because it doesn’t happen to us very often.

They were physical and have a lot pace on the break. When the ball came in the box, they were that little bit hungrier than us tonight.

We need to learn our lessons from this evening’s performance and make sure the very basic things you need on a football are in place to give us a chance of getting a result at the weekend.

On Ben Alnwick’s performance…

Ben has been excellent for us and his performance tonight was top drawer. A lot of credit goes to him because he made some really big saves.

On playing away from home…

You have to stand strong as a team away from home to get results. In the first period we didn’t do that well enough tonight, though we were better in the second half.

We need to stand strong and be resilient first and foremost because we didn’t do that and I’m disappointed.

And finally, looking forward to Saturday’s trip to Queens Park Rangers…

We need to move on from this quickly. It was our game in hand and a chance for us to open up the gap on the bottom three. We haven’t taken but we need to make sure we start better on Saturday against QPR.

We’ve now got to recover the lads as quickly as possible and get ready for another terrific game ahead of us at the weekend.

The big question is still unanswered, what did Steve Parkinson think?
