Wanderers suffered a body blow with defeat against Leeds United, which ramps up the pressure on Tuesday night’s game against Birmingham City.

Slow starts to both halves led to Leeds goals – and though Adam Le Fondre pulled one back for the Whites they were unable to find an extra gear when they needed one.

Marc Iles gives his view on each Wanderers player at Elland Road.

WANDERERS (4-2-3-1)

BEN ALNWICK…7.5

Undoubtedly the star of the show for Wanderers. Some fine saves one-on-one against Ekuban and another good stop from Hernandez. Deserved better defending on the second goal.

JON FLANAGAN…6.5

Noticed more in an attacking sense than a defensive one, as the majority of Leeds’ traffic was directed down the opposite flank. Maybe should have cleared the second goal.

RECCE BURKE…6

Solid enough game for the young defender, who does look comfortable in games where he has more possession. Question mark on whether he was strong enough on the second.

MARK BEEVERS…6

Caught by Alioski for pace on one occasion but the big centre coped quite well with Leeds’ constant counter-attacking barrage.

ANDY TAYLOR…5

Was never going to win a foot-race with Alioski, and found himself isolated on a number of occasions in the first half. A bad day at the office.

DERIK OSEDE…6

Put himself about and made more tackles than anyone else on the pitch. Parkinson made mention that his midfield gambled forward too often, however, which counts against him.

JAN KIRCHHOFF…6

Like Derik, perhaps guilty of allowing Leeds to counter – but the German’s use of the ball was very good.

WILL BUCKLEY…5.5

How he would have loved to tuck that header away in the second half. Bright early on but the miss unfortunately undid most of his good work.

JOSH VELA…6

Busy in the first half but quiet in the second. Vela barely wasted a pass all day but not enough of his good work was close to goal.

SAMMY AMEOBI…6

Had a poor first half but looked a threat in the second. Picked out Le Fondre for the goal and went close to an equaliser himself.

ADAM LE FONDRE…7

Fed off scraps for most of the game but gobbled up the one chance which fell his way. Can’t really ask for much more than that.

Subs: Morais 5.5, 66 (for Buckley) – Didn’t see enough of the ball after moving to the left.

Wilbraham 5, 73 (for Kirchhoff) – Didn’t have the desired impact, at all.

Clough 89 (for Taylor) – Too late to save Wanderers
