Wanderers have been handed a Championship lifeline – and one they must not waste.

Barnsley’s defeat at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night put the fate of Phil Parkinson’s side back firmly in their own hands but it will count for nothing unless the players stand tall at Burton Albion this weekend.

Recent performances have not been up to scratch, each and every member of the Bolton dressing room will know that at heart. As such, home home truths needed to be disclosed after last weekend’s defeat against Wolves in the hope the club still had time to alter its course.

It is a cast iron guarantee all the frustration which has lingered over the past few weeks will evaporate if one final big effort can be summoned.

For all the numerous permutations which could come into play this weekend and next, Wanderers know one thing: Win their next two games and they will be playing in this division next season. There will be an opportunity to progress.

And what a gloriously sweet feeling that would be, considering the obstacles which have been placed in front of them.

Every footballing expert wrote off a team which started poorly and took two points from its first 11 games. One bookmaker poked fun at Bolton, offering 1,500/1 ON they would be relegated. Slowly, those words were rammed back down their throats. But, make no mistake, there are still plenty who would love to see this great club fail.

This team, assembled without the luxury of a big budget, has already shown it can beat heavyweights like Aston Villa, Bristol City and Cardiff. Now it must prepare to go another two rounds.

Fans have backed their club to the hilt this season and will be there in number once again at the Pirelli Stadium, with volume turned up loud.

What we require is a performance of equal passion and magnitude from the men in white. This town you represent and the badge you wear on your chest demands it.
