The three teams promoted from League One...

Sheffield United finished 10th with 69 points... spending over £5 million.

Millwall finished 8th with 72 points (3 points from a playoff spot)... spending £513,000.

and Bolton finished 21st (thankfully) with 43 points... spending 0.

Conversely, clubs like Leeds United spent over £25.5 million and finished 13th (they did sell off £15.75 million)

Brentford finished 9th on 69 points, having come up from League One in 2014.  They spent £5.49 million, but sold off £13.65 for a net income of £8.16 million.

Likewise, 7th place Preston with 73 points (only 2 off the playoffs) spent £1.89 million and sold off £9.18 million for a net income of £7.29 million.

Wise investments can be accomplished and hopefully the club will be prudent and get good value for next season.

Us getting good value would be a first. If we have talent we always sell it cheap (apart from Madine obviously).

Let's not forget that whilst we didn't spend on transfer fees, we already had 6 or 7 players with considerable Premiership experience to throw into the mix. Most are getting on a bit and will need replacing eventually so if Anderson doesn't sell and we are heading into another year of austerity then succession planning and gradual change will be the order of the day. Perhaps the U23s winning the 2nd tier Development League will offer some comfort if Parky is brave enough?

I’d rather quality than experience. Who are the 6 or 7 with considerable experience though?

Wheater and Henry? Alf at a stretch?

Vela, Pratley, Ameobi, Wilbraham, Flanagan, Kirchhoff, Noone have all played at least one season in the Prem and several others have flirted with it or played at the top level in other countries (Kirchhoff for Bayern, Karacan for Galatasaray etc.) When you look around the squad there is no shortage of experience but they ain't getting any younger.

Hmm Vela made one appearance if I remember correctly, Pratley one poor season and Wilbraham - not sure how many he made for Palace. Definitely agree with your point though, there’s plenty of championship experience, and most have had their best days. Interesting to see if any u23s step up, we need to rely on youth more than ever.
