I've backed Neil Lennon more than any other manager since Phil Brown. But that backing has been futile, the guy is fooking clueless.

Just like his predecessor Dougie Freedman, his idea of management is to make the players play his favourite formation (3-5-2) even though the players clearly aren't cut out for it. He's holding his hands up over the disaster at Middlesbrough, but this is far from the first time he's played this shitty formation.

And while there's no doubt his hands have been tied regarding transfer fees, there's still no excuse for making Emile Heskey our number one striker, or buying utter garbage like Dobbin and Wilson.

And why oh why was Holding making his league debut away at Boro?

I think many of us fell into the trap of thinking Lennon would be a great appointment just because he was a no nonsense kind of guy. We were wrong. It's time to admit he's a disaster and we'd be better off getting shut.

Lennon out.

If Big Sam expresses an interest in coming back I'll gladly jump on your band wagon Nat. If not, we have the best manager out there at the moment.

Where's the proof JAH? Anyone could lead Celtic to the Scottish title. He's done very little at BWFC to suggest he can mould a decent team.

I agree with most of what you say (in this thread not in general), apart from the why give Holding his debut, everyone was saying the same thing about the kid at West Ham playing against Arsenal last weekend.

I said after the Rotherham debacle last season (when we were comprehensively outplayed by one of our relegation rivals) that I was still waiting to see some proof of why so many Bolton fans were convinced that Lennon was a "top manager" when he joined us.

Nat's point about Celtic is a valid one - my Nan could win the league managing them (without Rangers in the Scottish Prem) and she's been dead for 30 years.

Making the players take their woolly hats off in training and kicking water bottles across the technical area when you're angry isn't enough to win you games - I could do that because it's not hard.

I'm not jumping on any bandwagon because I've been saying this from day one but I remain far from convinced regarding Lennon's credentials to manage a team capable of competing in The Championship.

Yeah, he's no money but that doesn't stop him picking the players in their most effective positions and adapting to what's going on on the pitch.

And that's something I'm not seeing from Lennon.

Lennon out?

Maybe not just yet but I do want to see a massive improvement sooner rather than later.

And if Madine was injured, why was he on the fucking bench?

Bullshit or stupid management - either way, poor.

Hang on! We've played against two title favourites and got one point more than most predicted. In fact, we would have deservedly won one game but for the width of the goal-frame (x3!). Everyone was pleasantly surprised by how well we performed.

Only a few days later and it's all gloom apparently, but moneybags Boro played out of their skins for the first half. By his own admission, Lennon got it wrong and changed things for the second 45, but injuries to key players have not helped in what was a fairly unkind opening fixture list.

Hope confidence has not been affected.  Fans need to play their part......as they did against Derby,  certainly helping the team.  Let's see what has been learnt when we play the lesser lights of the championship, when the latest signings arrive and when we get somewhere near a full, fit squad.

Firstly, we will never have a fully fit squad, few teams do.

Secondly, you need to remove your ginger-tinted spectacles and see what's right in front of your nose - a manager who can't see that making players use a system they're not comfortable with only ends one way. Defeat.

Apart from the first few weeks of his appointment the team has been absolutely dire. Everyone knew we would struggle to score goals but he has done bugger all to address that issue - unless you call Heskey addressing the issue.

He should step down now.

Its too early yet. For me the first 6 games or so can go anywhere, and major decisions during this time cant be relied on.

We played well against Derby, and not too bad against Burton. Yesterday was a different story, and we were shite throughout. however, as mentioned earlier, the second half wasn't as bad. In effect we got hammered the first half, and drew the second, (yes, I know, I'm clutching at straws),  but don't condemn anyone just yet.

Way to early but it might be true that he's no someone who can get this team into the upper echelons on a shoe string.

I think he's done fairly well with the younger players and he's done ok with absolutely zero cash. No goals isn't encouraging though.

Nat:- Attention-seeking, melodramatic, hysterical rashness.......It's only a week since you and most others were praising the team and NL.

In any case, be careful what you wish for! How many decent replacements are available right now and what would be the cost? Not a good idea to push us into further debt without conclusive evidence, even if this game was horribly reminiscent of Dougie's approach against the better teams. He said sorry and promises he will learn; let's trust that he will before taking drastic action at this stage.

For us to have a crap start to this season and the fans to turn against Lennon one by one is just about the most predictable thing in the world.
It's a recurring theme at Bolton. New guy comes in, everybody thinks he's God for a few months, then the rot sets in and little by little the crowd start hating his guts. Soon enough it will be "I'm getting a little bit sick of this guy and his fucking stupid Irish accent!"
We're a bit like Sunderland in that we haven't had a "good season" for yonks, just patches of one under new management.

I have to say, the only thing I'm really bemused with Lennon over is the respect he has for his old mate Heskey who let's be honest is considerably untalented as many players are at 37. Obviously the formation didn't work yesterday, but it's only now that people want somebody to blame that they start bone picking over tactics. I bet if you look back at a number of matches that we won last season, you could put together an equally good argument for why that team selection was silly, but nobody bothered at the time for obvious reasons.

Are you saying people can't change their opinion in the space of a week?

You probably love Mrs Okocha. But if she shagged your next door neighbour on Monday, set fire to your porn collection on Tuesday, shagged your boss on Wednesday, sold your car for 50p on Thursday, shagged your brother on Friday and made you go clothes shopping on Saturday would you still love her by Saturday night?

Almost as predictable as you defending the manager while still slagging him off at the same time.

Admit it, you know what I say is true.

Who do you recommend we replace him with?
