Now then, now then Boggers. Some of us no longer worship at Bolton Hater's altar so as that isn't an actual quote it shouldn't be dressed up in parentheses to imply Gartside actually said that.

Cowardyce might have claimed he said it to deflect attention from his treachery but as far as I understand, Gartside actually said " We've got no money" at which point Fat Sam dropped the pretence that he actually gave a **** about BWFC and the fans and effed off after the Geordie shekel.

I find it difficult to understand how you reconcile forgiving Lennon for piss poor performances and results on the basis that he's working on a shoestring budget and yet forgive the chickenshit barsteward who wouldn't even try to manage sustainably.

If Gartside actually said "I don't want us to win the Carling Cup" then I apologise profusely, but I don't believe he did for a minute.

So you're saying you believe Gartside? Now that is interesting
Not exactly - I don't know for sure and I don't trust either of them as far as I can throw Blackpool Tower.
What I am saying is that I don't think Gartside would actually say "I don't want us to win the CC"
I also think that "We've got no money" is something Gartside would be very, very likely to say.

Apart from that, all I know is that Allardyce couldn't face the challenge of managing on a reduced budget and was prepared to leave the us for a richer club as soon as he was told there was no more to spend. And to read that he made his mind up at the exact moment he was told about the budget is sickening and reinforces my view that he is more of a mercenary than any player.

Lusty he never did have a big budget that's why he went for the likes of Okocha and Djorkaeff as they were free transfers (with admittedly high wages). He just wanted us to push on and try to go as far as we could. Personally i think that's exactly what we should have down instead of resting on our laurels.

reading the extract, I can understand Garty saying "we will struggle financially if we end up in Europe", as I am sure that was true. what i don't get is why you would say that to your manager just before a cup final....maybe he did, maybe he didn't...but it is very very hard to reconcile wanting to win everything with the knowledge it would bankrupt the club if you did.

Totally agree and if true, Gartside's timing couldn't have been worse as I would have thought than any Chair worth their salt would have crossed that bridge when they got to it.

He had the biggest budget in the history of our club at that point in time.

With the benefit of hindsight and knowledge of the ridiculous expenditure that followed I agree, but the important factor is not transfer fees or wages in isolation but rather that our expenditure massively outstripped our income.

Now it could be argued that the Directors could have thrown more money at the problem to gamble on our success bringing a huge boost to our income to turn loss into profit (they took that gamble later and lost) but seeing as we were already some £40 odd million in debt - unprecedented at the time - and that the squad was already old in footie terms - I can understand why they turned off the tap. This assumes they could actually get the money at the time. Whatever the truth about the finances it was handled badly all round.

Even so, that doesn't excuse Allardyce for chickening out of the challenge and leaving us in the lurch just because he didn't get his own way. If it was his money at stake...

Really? I know a bit about Sherwin Williams having once worked for a competitor specialist coatings manufacturer out of El Paso. They are huge these days with global interests and annual sales running into the billions.
I didn't know they had any interest in sport though other than making coatings for sports vehicles and I heard they'd got involved in Nascar in some way, but it's a long stretch to buying a Championship footie team.

Just Googled Sherwin Williams sports interests and apparently they are official sponsors of the Gay Games.
We'll get more stick than Brighton if they buy us.

Fed up with hearing all these 'rumours' with no substance to them whatsoever. May as well put Bill Gates to takeover the club. When it happens the local paper will tell us. No need to make things up.

I didn't make anything up. Fat Sam was putting together a consortium, I didn't say it would be successful.

My mole is brilliant. We're lucky to have him.
