Manda, next week's Question Time is from Bath. Will you be going?

If you are, please can you put the last two weeks' Tory MPs to shame by being civilised, sensitive and polite. Anna Soubry and Nicky Morgan have set back the case for more female representation in the HoC by decades with their constant shrill interruptions and lack of fair, reasoned, knowledgeable comment. Ghastly women!
I'm sure you will offset their performances positively and without any of their crass, uncaring remarks that did the Tories' image no favours at all.

You may even be able to put in a good word for BW on national TV whilst you're at it!

Hi Okocha, I am in a neither fish nor fowl position. I'm not important enough to be on the panel, but I am sufficiently politically senior to not be allowed in the audience in case BBC is accused of bias, so I can't attend. I didn't watch it last week, I find it is not good for my blood pressure, but in general I am so so offended when women who get into parliament think the way to succeed is to adopt the worst disrespectful rude behaviour some of the men exhibit. In debate, I am firm fair and respectful of others opinion, never interrupt, and generally get good feedback for so being. Last time I was on Sunday politics, Molly Cato was also on panel (Green MEP) and I think we performed well, got our points over, but weren't abrasive. That does not make great tv in the opinion of those who book guests, they much prefer a punch up, but I think most viewers are more intelligent than they are given credit for. If they want to see lumps being torn out of each other, Jeremy Kyle can provide it. If they are interested in a debate between people who represent them, or are aiming to, whether at local or national level, and who need to demonstrate leadership and express their vision, thats what Newsnight and QT should provide IMO. Thanks for thinking of me tho Okocha!!

I can't recall ever seeing a QT where representatives have a structured, balanced debate as such. Usually it's a point-scoring, self-promoting, agenda-driven propagandafest.
And that's what sells it - giving the audience the opportunity to boo, cheer, laugh and cry.
I love watching the ones who stray off brief and forget their media training.

I stopped watching some time ago, as I feel its nothing more than point scoring, and nothing can be, or is, resolved in such a short time. It does nothing more than muddy the waters, whilst we are subjected to sound bites where the so-called contributor has nothing in sight other than self promotion. Similar to the Sunday morning debate.
I do like the Sunday Politics show though.

A shame you can't at least be in the audience, Manda. We could do with some sane, reasoned, civil debate. Having said that, Caroline Lucas was excellent last night, but Dimbleby didn't allow her anywhere near enough time compared to the pompous, loud-mouthed interrupters.
Even worse was the fact that, despite having her on the panel in the week where most nations are involved in discussing climate change with a view to implementing firm promises to make a worthwhile difference, QT didn't so much as mention this crucial topic. Instead, we had an hour on whether Corbyn's influence on Labour was firm enough and whether he should wear a better suit!

I hope you are feeling a bit better now, Manda. Look after yourself.

So, if you weren't allowed to be present in the audience, Manda, did you actually manage to watch QT on TV when it was held in Bath a short time ago?

It was a much better debate than normal with excellent contributions from the locals. Interesting that there seemed to be a huge pro-Corbyn lobby. Is that the norm in your neck of the woods, Manda?

Hi Okocha, I didn't watch it, normally do, but was out and haven't caught up. re Corbyn, a lot of the surrounds of Bath are old Somerset mining villages, and quite pro Labour, and it is currently impossible to get a copy of the Jeremy Corbyn colouring book for love nor money in town!!

Wonder what Manda's up to? When she became Mayor of Bath, she probably decided to give us the elbow in case we embarrassed her.
Hope she's doing well.

Had a quick nosey about and it appears that Manda is a Cabinet Member at her local council.

Her council is a unitary authority (which means it carries out traditional County Council functions such as Education, Social Services and Highways) and the Cabinet consists of just nine senior councillors.

She has stood down from her position of Mayor as it is a position that is only held for a year.

I would normally post links to stuff like this but as a councillor the links provide details to her personal information such as home address and contact information, so I thought it best not to do on this occasion.

Funnily enough I saw a tweet she had made to Marc Iles just a day or so ago, which suggests she still follows BWFC closely (if only through Iles and the BN(?)) but she hasn't been on here since last November.

In all honesty I can't blame her either, if I were a senior elected representative of the people I certainly wouldn't want it to be known that I frequented a social media site such as this where obsessive political hatred and anger has been posted daily for a number of years now.

How could I represent ALL the constituents of the authority that I've been elected to and be seen to be a regular on a site with such obsessive manic hatred and anger to all things Tory?

I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole and clearly Manda has chosen to keep away too.

Does the site NOT reflect an ongoing, sustained and obsessive hatred of all things Tory?

The only person who has posted in the 'How the Tory government is doing' over the last week is solely Wanderlust - even though he's been out of the country in Morocco AND we've had the local elections and results thereof in that time!!!

Fwiw I don't hate Wanderlust or anyone else for that matter.

I was clearly stating the bleeding obvious that a few on here - the Okocha account, TROY and specifically Wanderlust have for a number of years now banged on about their dislike of Johnson, the Conservative Government and Tory policies in general and ALL of them have been vocal in their support of the right wing loonies such as Maugham and his Good Law Project.

There's nothing wrong with holding such views but TROY I think had begun to realise that Maugham wasn't such the socialist evangelist he seemed to be, the Okocha account only bangs on about Johnson at appropriate times (and with some merit in what he says too) yet Wanderlust is simply just ceaseless with his daily bile and clear hatred of all things Tory (even when they get somethings right!).

It's pretty clear to me at least that that isn't normal behaviour - even on social media.

Why don't you for a change view things in the context that they are set instead of automatically seeing me being in the wrong every time?

Wanderlust DOES clearly have an obsessive hatred of all things Tory - do you deny that?

Can he even deny that???

And that's why I posted that a senior Lib Dem Councillor elected to represent all of their constituents (which would include many Tory voters) would be sensible in NOT wanting to be seen as a regular on a site which is posting Tory hatred on a daily basis.

It's not really rocket science really is it?

And fwiw I thought it was completely wrong and abhorrent of you to jump in on Cajun's thread to have your usual pop at me (I'm always wrong in your eyes whatever I do) particularly as I had specifically posted to keep such shit as that OFF that thread in respect of Cajun's current and ongoing health condition.

Seems your fixed and immovable view of me blinds you to everything else unfortunately.

TBF Manda isn't a big fan of the Tories/corruption/Russian paymasters/dishonesty/lack of integrity or Brexit for that matter either Smile

She lurks on matchdays a fair bit still and I often wish she'd take the plunge and share her insights (and not inconsiderable wit as I recall)

That's simply not true.

The last time Chairmanda visited the site was on the 2nd November last year...

https://forum.boltonnuts.co.uk/memberlist?mode=lastvisit&order=DESC&submit=Ok&username=chairmanda

The last time she posted was in August 2019

I've just had a scroll back of her posts to September 2017 - and she hasn't posted anything about " Tories/corruption/Russian paymasters/dishonesty/lack of integrity".

Seems you are making things up again...

Did you check our live discussions on the portal too? Our conversations about the school we both went to and the Libdems?

Do you read my PMs and the conversations I have with other regulars? Do you even know which other posters on here I've met offline?

You really have no idea whatsoever, but to be fair it is amusing to watch you flailing around in desperation.

Perhaps instead of wasting your time trawling back through old threads with the sole purpose of trying to have yet another pop at me, you could try and post something about the topic we're actually discussing which in this is case about us missing Manda's excellent input.

Do you read my PMs?

I suspect you need to be more desperate than you already are if that's possible.

wanderlust wrote:She lurks on matchdays a fair bit still and I often wish she'd take the plunge and share her insights (and not inconsiderable wit as I recall)

A fair bit still does she?

I'm not sure how she is supposed to have communicated with you on the portal and by PM's as she's not logged on to the site for half a year and whatever she did share with you was probably written in a way to say a lot but actually say nothing at all - you know like how politicians (which she is of course one) do!

I'd be absolutely amazed if she's stupid enough to disclose her personal views to a complete stranger on the internet - even if you both went to the same school fifty odd years ago!

More likely if she has corresponded with you she's written stuff that you've put your own spin and interpretation to - like you do with 99% of the other stuff you write on here - such as how Manda 'hangs around the site a fair bit still'...!

Do you get my point?

As for all these remarks you make about me being desperate - wtf are you on about???

I couldn't give a fuck about you.

Really I couldn't!

If you want to lie - and you do lie - then that's up to you.

If people want to believe you - knowing that you lie - then that's up to them.

That's how social media works.

I simply prefer to deal in truth and facts and not long standing emotional bitterness, irrational blind anger and outright porkies and half-truths like you clearly do.
