We welcome small club Burnley from the mill, bring your air fresheners, the stench can be horrendous.

I think we'll get 4 or 5 .

It may be a bit early but this should be a good test of how far Parky has come in terms of creating a solid defence on which to build. Conceding at Crewe isn't very encouraging so a decent defensive performance against Burnley is needed especially if he starts with his preferred back four.
Burnley will expect to get a hatful of course.

Agree entirely and it will be a good confidence booster if we can get a decent result against prem opposition so close to the start of the season. Then again, a tonking could do the opposite but I think we'll do ok.

Ref watch: Chris Kavanagh to oversee Burnley friendly

Chris Kavanagh will oversee Wanderers’ pre-season friendly with Burnley as Phil Parkinson takes charge of his first game at Macron Stadium.

The match will mark the first time the Lancashire based official has run the rule over the Whites, having refereed his first Football League fixture in August 2014.

Controlling Championship, League One, League Two, League Cup, FA Cup and Football League Trophy fixtures last season, Mr Kavanagh was the man in the middle for 32 games, dishing out 114 yellow cards and three red cards.

James Mainwaring and Nick Greenhalgh will run the line, while Mike Sutcliffe is the fourth official.

Scouting report: Burnley

Ahead of Burnley's visit to Macron Stadium on Tuesday night, bwfc.co.uk take a closer look at Sean Dyche's side...

PRE-SEASON SO FAR…
After securing an immediate return to the Premier League last season, Burnley have looked to strengthen their squad in recent weeks ahead of their upcoming top-flight campaign.

The 2015/16 Championship winners recently acquired Johann Berg Gudmundsson from Charlton Athletic following the Icelander’s successful Euro 2016 campaign.

Also making the move to Turf Moor from the Addicks is goalkeeper Nick Pope, who will provide cover for Tom Heaton alongside former England international Paul Robinson.

Three other members of the Clarets’ squad also enjoyed mixed fortunes at the recent European Championships with Sam Vokes, Stephen Ward and Tom Heaton called up by Wales, Republic of Ireland and England respectively.

Now back to business and looking towards their league exploits however, Dyche’s men have enjoyed a relatively successful start to their pre-season with a 3-1 victory over French outfit FC Stade Nyonnais, a 1-1 draw against Morecambe and 4-1 victory against Bradford City to their names so far.

With Wanderers already boasting a handful of victories of their own during the club’s pre-season preparations, and with a number of players looking to impress under new manager Phil Parkinson, this evening’s friendly game looks set to be an entertaining encounter.

THE MANAGER: SEAN DYCHE
Having led Burnley to promotion twice since taking over the managerial reins at Turf Moor, Sean Dyche is a man held in the highest regard by the club’s faithful.

A defender in his playing days, he started his coaching career with former club Watford as a youth coach in 2007 before being promoted to assistant manager two years later.

Later named manager in 2011, a change in ownership at the Hornets saw him relieved of his duties after just a season in charge at Vicarage Road.

Briefly a member of the England Under-21s coaching set-up, he returned to management with Burnley in September 2012, and has not looked back since, winning promotion in his first full season at the club.

And despite being relegated after just a solitary season in the Premier League, Dyche led Burnley back into the top-flight at the first time of asking last season as Championship champions.

CAPTAIN: TOM HEATON
A firm fan favourite at Turf Moor, Burnley captain Tom Heaton has established himself as the Clarets’ first choice goalkeeper during his three years with the club.

Starting his career in Manchester United’s academy, the 30-year-old spent various loan spells with the likes of Swindon Town, Cardiff City, Rochdale and Wycombe Wanderers before returning to South Wales in 2010.

Spending two seasons with the Bluebirds, the keeper proceeded to spend a solitary campaign with Bristol City in 2012/13 as the Robins suffered relegation to English football’s third tier.

Joining Burnley that summer, he has not looked back since, winning promotion to the Premier League twice during his time in Lancashire.

Also a former England youth international, Heaton made his senior debut in a friendly against Australia back in May and was a part of the Three Lions’ Euro 2016 squad.

KEY PLAYER: ANDRE GRAY
Last season’s Sky Bet Championship’s top goalscorer with 25 strikes in all competitions, all eyes will be on Andre Gray this evening and throughout the upcoming Premier League season.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A youth player with Shrewsbury Town during the noughties, it wasn’t until the 25-year-old moved to Hinckley United in 2010 that his ability became apparent.

Impressing for the Knitters, he was soon snapped up by Luton Town where he won the Conference Premier title in 2014.

Moving onto Brentford that summer, he scored 18 goals in 50 games as the Bees made the play-offs – enough to convince Burnley to hand over a club record fee to secure the frontman’s services.

Helping fire Burnley to the Sky Bet Championship title, Gray will be eager to reproduce his prolific form both tonight and in the top-flight, having scored four times against Wanderers last season.

LAST BURNLEY XI (v Bradford City, W 1-4)
Heaton, Darikwa, Keane, Mee, Ward, Boyd, Marney, Jones, Arfield, Barnes, Gray

Subs: Pope, Lowton, Lafferty, Kightly, Hennings, Jutkiewicz, Ulvestad, Tarkowski, Long, Ginnelly, Agyei, O'Neill, Aghayere

LAST TIME WE MET
Liam Feeney opened the scoring for Wanderers the last time they hosted Burnley back in February, only for a late Andre Gray brace to seal victory for the eventual Championship winners.

Good points but it does make depressing reading and provides a stark reminder of just how far we've fallen. Not long ago a game against Burnley we'd be talking about us expecting to get a hatful.

It has to be pushing 10 years since we had that kind of confidence. Might as well compare the current team against the last one we had in Europe - no comparison and no point in looking back at the managerial fiasco that got us into this mess.
The wheel will turn again though.

Preview: Five points ahead of Bolton Wanderers v Burnley

It's a night of firsts at Macron Stadium as Wanderers welcome Premier League Burnley to BL6 in their penultimate pre-season outing. Here are five key points to look out for on Tuesday night...

1. Back at Macron Stadium!
Tuesday night's match against Burnley will be Wanderers' fifth outing of pre-season, but their first at Macron Stadium. A lot has changed around the club since the Whites last took to the BL6 pitch back in April.

Having won three of their previous four friendlies, Bolton will be eager to put in a positive display in front of their home fans ahead of next month's Sky Bet League One opener against Sheffield United.

2. Gaffer's home debut
As a result, the game also marks Phil Parkinson's maiden match at Macron Stadium since being appointed Trotters manager last month, and the first chance the majority of Wanderers fans will have had to see his new-look side in action.

Speaking after the Whites' weekend victory over York City, the gaffer had this to say about his upcoming home debut; "We’ve had a lot of games on the road and I think that has been a good thing after last year.

"It has given us the opportunity to get the experience of standing strong as a group when things go against you, as we saw against York with their penalty. Now we look forward to two great tests at home in the next week or so."

3. New signings' home debut
Like the gaffer, Bolton's four new signings will also be looking to make their home debuts for the club in Tuesday's clash with the Clarets.

All have contributed in pre-season so far, with Jamie Proctor scoring against FC Helsingor and York City, Mark Howard saving a penalty and keeping a clean sheet against York, Chris Taylor setting up a goal against Helsingor and Mark Beevers captaining the Trotters against Mansfield Town.

With the quartet all set to sample Macron Stadium for the first time as Wanderers, they will be be looking to make a good first impression at their new home in front of the Whites faithful.

4. Home kit
Having used a temporary kit through pre-season so far, Bolton's brand new 2016/17 Macron home kit gets its first run-out on Tuesday.

Pre-orders are being accepted ahead of its release this weekend, with the Trotters' match against Burnley offering the first opportunity Wanderers will have had to see the new shirt in the flesh.

5. Premier League opposition
Unbeaten in 2016, Burnley comfortably won promotion to the Premier League last season as Championship winners.

That being said, there was not much between the two sides the last time the Whites hosted the Clarets back in February as a late Andre Gray brace saw Sean Dyche's side come from behind to win 2-1 on the day.

Having won their last two pre-season outings against National League sides Tranmere Rovers and York City, Tuesday game marks a clear step up in opposition for Phil Parkinson's men and a good test with just a week and a half to go until the start of the new season.
