Bolton Wanderers Under-23s hit the woodwork four times but were unable to find a breakthrough as they drew 0-0 away at Colchester United on Monday.

Putting in a dominant display, the young Whites controlled proceedings from start to finish but were left to rue missed chances come the final whistle.

Robbie McDaid and Alex Honeyball were both denied by the crossbar in the first half, before the latter saw a stinging volley kept out by the Colchester goalkeeper.

Continuing to press forward after the break, both McDaid and George Newell hit the post as Bolton went in search of a winner but they were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

Speaking to bwfc.co.uk after the final whistle, coach David Lee said: "We put in an excellent performance against an experienced older team. We set targets for the team,   for them to be hard to beat and to play with a discipline and organisation.

"The opposition worked us hard early in the game but our discipline and desire was robust. We then took charge of the game with some good phases of play.

"Both Alex Honeball and Robbie McDaid hit the crossbar with efforts in the first half, while we continued to create chances with us secure and solid at the back.

"We also dominated the second as McDaid and George Newell were denied by the post.

"Our dominance wasn't repaid however, as we couldn't get a break through.

"Despite this, it was a very pleasing performance with every player contributing to a well-earned draw."
