I've previously mentioned my utter, all-consuming and totally complete dislike of UB40.

It's boring, bland reggae-lite bollocks and the lead singer's a ginger.

They started out being political but I was only 9 and I was more interested in Joe Dolce and the Nottingham Forest squad singing He's Got The Whole World In His Hands to celebrate their European Cup exploits than I was in their dour Brummy rubbish.

However....I've just discovered that they've had "more than 50 top 40 singles in the UK".

50 hits.....

That's a lot of (s)hits.

Can you name 5 without resorting to Googling?

I bet you can't.

In fact, if you can name one in ten of their hits (see what I did there?), I'll be amazed.

Quick question.

4 people have browsed this thread in the last 10 minutes but nobody's commented, which is fine.

But who are you?

Are you regulars who've just gone: "Ah yes.....the usual Friday night thread from Bread. Pfft...why does he drink so much and start pointless threads on a Friday night? The fool...."

Or are you Lurkers who just hang round watching.

With your right hand down your pants.

In a grubby mac....

In the bushes..........

If it's the latter, just post a quick comment to let the rest of us know that you exist.

I don't want a critique of the thread, merely an acknowledgement that you actually exist will do.

In fact, if you're feeling uncomfortable about outing yourself, I'm happy to offer you a safe word to avoid having to put some effort into thinking about what you're going to say.

Just post the word "Underpants" and we'll count your vote and say no more about it.

Thanks.

The only songs that come to my mind are red, red wine and I got you babe.

I can't believe that they have had 50 top 40 hits either nor have I probably ever heard any others on the radio so the rest must be shit.

Right, It's up to fucking 20 now!

Seriously, me and KP can't be the only ones looking at this (frankly pointless) thread.

Reveal thy selves!

You've never watched Morcambe & Wise, have you....?

That explains a lot about your approach to comedy.

I've just logged in this evening, so wasn't one of your earlier visitors.

Maybe only say 1 in 10 people will comment who see this thread perhaps?

(Anybody see what I did there?)

As for Karly's comment though!

Ah...I see.

Thanks for that, Boggers, much appreciated.

If it's any consolation....I was typing all the right letters......just not necessarily in the right order.

I'd comment something of relevance to this thread but I'm just too young

I know we've fallen out a bit but you're seriously better than that.

When you have to resort to ripping Johnny's shtick off, you know you're in trouble.

You'll be forcing rubber masks into unsuspecting peoples' faces next and screaming "Eat the Giant Buttons and drink the Pepsi Lite!!" next.

(Love ya, J. Very Happy )

Tinned Toms - You know it makes sense!

Red red wine was number one on the day I was born. Off the top of my head - Kingston Town, red red wine, I can't help falling in love with you, Cherry oh baby, I got you babe and higher ground. Quite like some UB40 personally.

That's six.

Well done, mate.

Any more?

Of the other forty four hits what they've had?........

As an aside, I've just Googled what was Number One the day I was born and apparently it was Lee Marvin with Wand'rin' Star".

The Wanderers thing's in there but it was all a bit shit.

Very apt.

My daughter used to love Rat in Me Kitchen when she was 4 or 5, so maybe we are all just to old to enjoy the sybtle nuances of a UB40 song.

Number 1 when I was born was Shakin Stevens with This Ole House.
