Wanderers' survival chances took a knock against Birmingham City after Lukas Jutkiewicz grabbed the only goal of the game.

Marc Iles gives his assessment of the players after a potentially damaging defeat at the Macron Stadium.

WANDERERS (4-2-3-1)

BEN ALNWICK…6

Didn’t have a save of note to make but claimed a few crosses and ventured forward in injury time in search of a dramatic equaliser.

JON FLANAGAN…5

Saw a fair bit of the ball on the right but didn’t get the Whites moving forward as he has in recent weeks.

REECE BURKE…5

Has the class on the ball to have made a difference but too often looked long. Not particularly troubled defensively.

MARK BEEVERS…5

Seemed to lose Jutkiewicz for the goal and had a poor night distribution-wise. Step backwards after some improved recent form.

ANDY TAYLOR…5

Got stuck in as he tried to answer a poor showing at Leeds United but struggled to make any real inroads into Birmingham’s back line.

KARL HENRY…4.5

Looked off the pace, possibly as a result of his injury. Brought off in the second half as a precaution, only for his replacement to pull up injured too.

DERIK OSEDE…4

One to forget. Hardly got on the ball – but after wasting a couple of passes in the second half was taken off for Noone.

WILL BUCKLEY…5

One decent chance missed and a cross which should have led to a penalty – but Wanderers didn’t make the pitch wide enough against 10 men.

JOSH VELA…5.5

Looked positive on the ball for the most part but still not having enough of an effect in the final third of the pitch

SAMMY AMEOBI…5.5

Linked-up with Le Fondre quite well in the first half but drifted out of the game when his side really needed him most.

ADAM LE FONDRE…6

Can’t fault the striker’s work ethic but was feeding off scraps and challenging for aerial balls which he had no chance of winning.

Subs: Noone 7, 55 (for Derik) – Lively cameo. Should start at Derby.

Clough 72 (for Buckley) – Couldn’t quite force his way into the game.

Kirchhoff 75 (for Henry) – Injured almost immediately.

Not used: Howard, Robinson, Wilbraham, Wheater.

Birmingham City (4-4-2): Stockdale; Harding, Morrison, Dean, Colin; Jota, Davis, Ndoye, Maghoma; Jutkiewicz, Adams

Subs: Kieftenbeld 76 (for Jota), Cogley 83 (for Ndoye), Roberts 90 (for Jutkiewicz)

Not used: Kuszczak, Grounds, Boga, Lowe

Referee: Oliver Langford (West Midlands) 3/10

Attendance: 21,097 (4,816)

Atmosphere: 8/10

Entertainment: 6/10
