WANDERERS (4-2-3-1)

BEN ALNWICK…6 People will point to his poor kick late in the game which led to Assombalonga’s goal but the Bolton keeper did well under a barrage of crosses.

PAWEL OLKOWSKI…7 Once again looked a class act on the ball and provided pretty much Wanderers’ only attacking threat for the first hour. Had a defensive examination against the over-lapping George Friend and passed.

DAVID WHEATER…7 Some fine defending in the second half on his old turf. Protected the penalty box well and seemed to be in the right place at the right time.

JACK HOBBS…6 Unfortunate to pick up a nasty eye injury in the first half, which forced him off the field.

MARK BEEVERS…6.5 Worked hard to keep Boro at bay, especially during a one-way first half. Little he could do about O’Neil’s back-pass which led to the first goal.

JONATHAN GROUNDS…6 Swamped in the first half but able to get down the left and offer some width in the second, the on-loan full-back had a decent chance to make it 1-1, too.

JASON LOWE…5 Wanderers’ midfield did not come out of the game with too much credit and Lowe struggled to influence proceedings.

JOE WILLIAMS…5.5 Pushed on a little more in the second half, which at least gave Bolton a chance, but spent most of his night chasing his opponents’ shadows.

JOSH VELA…5 Back in the team, he would have been desperate to make an impression. Had a big chance to level the scores but had that frustrated look again.

GARY O’NEIL…5.5
Glaring mistake aside, O’Neil actually covered a lot of ground for Wanderers. Parkinson is clearly struggling to find a balance in the middle of the park, however, and it has to change for Ipswich.

JOSH MAGENNIS…5.5 Continual look of anguish on the Northern Irishman’s face as he jumped from one thankless chase to the next. Received so little support for the first hour.

Subs: Wilson 6.5, 32 (for Hobbs) – Looked good when he replaced the unfortunate Hobbs.

Oztumer 6, 65 (for Vela) – Added a bit of energy later on. Pushing for a start.

Wildschut 78 (for Grounds) – Two shots on goal in 12 minutes. Bolton needed that earlier.

Not used: Matthews, Little, Donaldson, Noone.

Middlesbrough: Randolph; Shotton, Flint, Ayala, Friend; Howson, Clayton, Saville; Downing; Braithwaite, Hugill.

Subs: McQueen 74 (for Downing), Assombalonga 76 (for Braithwaite), Besic 78

(for Saville)

Not used: Dimi, Batth, McNair, Fry.
