Wanderers may have to change a winning side against Stoke City tomorrow with injury doubts surfacing over two key players.

Andy Taylor and Sammy Ameobi have both been on the treatment table since the 2-1 Boxing Day victory against Rotherham United.

Phil Parkinson refused to rule either player out of facing the Potters completely but admits he has been considering his options if they are not fit enough to play.

“We’ll be keeping an eye on them,” he said. “Andy Taylor’s calf tightened up, which we don’t think is too serious, and Sammy twisted his ankle and had an injection at half time.

“Maybe three or four years ago Sammy might have looked to come off the field for that but he was closing down the full-back right to the end.

“We have got the usual bumps and bruises you’d expect from a hard-fought game but we’ll get the players in, assess them together as a staff and pick the right team to get a result against Stoke.”

Wanderers remained second bottom of the Championship after finally pulling out of a winless run on Wednesday but managed to claw back some ground on the teams above them.

Parkinson wanted to escape the bottom three by the time his side travel to Hull City on New Year’s Day – and the Bolton boss is banking on some momentum against Stoke.

“It can turn around. Despite the run we have been on, we’re not adrift at the bottom of the table.

“We’re in a position where we can get out of that bottom three. That’s got to happen at the weekend.

“People will walk into training with a spring in their step.

“Sometimes we’ll make changes, sometimes we’ll go with the same team.”
