Wanderers were beaten 2-1 at Bristol City, slipping to second-bottom in the Championship table.

It was a tough day for Phil Parkinson's side, who took a 58th minute lead through Will Buckley but found themselves 2-1 down less than 10 minutes later.

How did the players fare? Marc Iles gives his view.

WANDERERS (4-2-3-1)

BEN ALNWICK…5

Has been one of Wanderers’ most consistent performers this season but didn’t seem set when Taylor turned to score the first goal.

PAWEL OLKOWSKI…6

Made some really important contributions in the penalty box but was never given a moment’s peace by a lively Bristol attack.

DAVID WHEATER…7

May feel disappointed he didn’t win the first header in the build-up to the second goal but otherwise his defending was top notch.

MARK BEEVERS…6.5

Like Wheater, it was hard to pick holes in anything other than that mad five minutes. Should perhaps have cleared his lines when Palmer headed home.

JONATHAN GROUNDS…5

Given plenty to do and was coping well enough until the second half, when he started giving the ball away all too often.

JASON LOWE…6.5

Got about the pitch extremely well and put Wanderers’ best effort in on goal with a half-volley just after half time.

LUKE MURPHY…6

Worked hard to protect the penalty box but we didn’t see much from him in possession. Summed up Wanderers on the day, really.

WILL BUCKLEY…5.5

Took his goal well but we really didn’t see enough of him in an attacking sense. Wanderers crossed the ball 10 times – and not one came from Buckley.

CRAIG NOONE…6

Moved into the centre, which seemed to stunt his effectiveness for the first hour of the game. Worked as hard as ever – and put in some decent crosses late on.

SAMMY AMEOBI…5

A wonderful cross for Buckley’s goal and one galloping run – but Wanderers need more from a player who is definitely capable.

JOSH MAGENNIS…5

After his hat-trick against Walsall it was back to the grindstone for Magennis. Little stuck for him – but he kept going to the end.

Subs: Donaldson 77 (for Buckley), Vela 85 (for Murphy), Dyer 85 (for Grounds)

Not used: Williams, Taylor, Hobbs, Wilson.

Bristol City (4-1-4-1): Maenpaa; Hunt, Kalas, Webster, Kelly; Pack; Weimann, Brownhill, Paterson, O’Dowda; Diedhiou.

Subs: Palmer 61 (for Weimann), Dasilva 61 (for Kelly), Taylor 61 (for Paterson)

Not used: O’Leary, Wright, Baker, Eliasson

Referee: Stephen Martin (Staffordshire) 6/10 – Gave a few head-scratching free-kicks in the first half but generally got the big calls right.

Attendance: 19,730 (499) – Wanderers fans were magnificent. There may be issues at the club right now but the loyalty of their support is unquestionable.
