Wanderers snatched a point at the death in a relegation battle with Reading.

Luca Connell again impressed for the Whites, with Sammy Ameobi also having one of his best games for a while.

Marc Iles gives his verdict on how the players fared.

WANDERERS (4-2-3-1)

REMI MATTHEWS…6

Only had one serious save to make when he rushed off the line to stifle Barrow. Looked a little more assured than he had at Bristol City.

PAWEL OLKOWSKI…5

Implicated in the penalty but it had been a frustrating night leading up to that point for the Pole, whose crossing didn’t quite hit the mark.

DAVID WHEATER…6.5

Steady as you go. With so much of Reading’s possession in front of him, Wheater never looked really stretched. Nice venture forward in the first half.

JACK HOBBS…6.5

Scored his first goal in nearly six years to cancel out a very soft penalty award. A positive step after a couple of difficult games.

ANDY TAYLOR…6

Didn’t all go his way in possession but his block in front of his own net from Swift in the first half was as good as a goal at the time.

JASON LOWE…5

Not a great day at the office for Lowe who couldn’t quite sort out his range of passing. A couple of half-decent efforts at goal.

LUCA CONNELL…7

May have tired a little in the second half but he was still trying things that others seemed to fear. Showed composure well beyond his tender years.

CRAIG NOONE…6

One superb turn and cross before half time but a handful of less productive ones. Real mixed bag from a player who always gives his all.

GARY O’NEIL…5

Should have done better with the second-half header which looped on to the roof of the net. Faded towards the end.

SAMMY AMEOBI…7

His best outing for some time. Involved in everything going forward, looked bright but couldn’t quite get that howitzer of a left peg in range.

CLAYTON DONALDSON…5.5

You don’t get prizes for ‘nearly’ but once again the hard-working front man came close to making a real difference.

Subs: Buckley 5, 67 (for Noone) – One effort ruled offside.

Pritchard 72 (for Connell), Magennis 79 (for Olkowski)

Not used: Williams, Little, Buckley, Murphy, Grounds

Reading (4-2-3-1): Martinez, Gunter, Miazga, Moore, Yiadom, Rinomhota, Bacuna, Aluko, Swift, Barrow; Oliveira.

Subs: McCleary 60 (for Gunter), Blacket 81 (for Swift), Loader 90 (for Oliveira)

Not used: Walker, Harriott, Baker, Ejiara.

Referee: Scott Duncan 5/10 – Showed quite a few cards for an even-tempered game. Gave a very soft penalty too.

Attendance: 12,195 (329)
