A goal from Ezgjan Alioski in the second half saw Leeds United defeat Bolton Wanderers 2-1 in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon.

A Patrick Bamford penalty opened the scoring in the first half for the Yorkshire side, before a Mark Beevers close range effort levelled proceedings for Wanderers.

This all before a speculative Alioski effort from distance caught Whites goalkeeper Remi Matthews out and found the back of the net.

After the final whistle, manager Phil Parkinson spoke to bwfc.co.uk and covered these topics…

On his assessment of the game as a whole…

“I thought we deserved something from the game today.

“We had some good chances in the first half, like Magennis’ header that the keeper has done excellently with.

“I thought the lads stuck to the game plan and worked exceptionally hard.

“We have taken a good team right to the wire.

“It was hugely disappointing to get nothing from the game, but we have to take heart from the game.

“We fatigued in the second half, as did Leeds, but the level of performance didn’t drop at all.

“To concede the second goal in that manner hurts, as Remi has been excellent since he has come into the team.

“I know he will recover from that and come back stronger.”

On whether the game could have gone either way…

“I felt we had our moments in the game and I felt the lads took the St. Andrew’s performance into this game.

“There was an aggression and a tenacity about us today, a real work ethic.

“Like I said to everyone prior to the game, Reading and Rotherham have drawn today and if we could have come through these games still in touching distance, I think we have got a decent chance.

“On our travels, we have set a benchmark for what we need to do and we need to reproduce it against Swansea City.”

On matching Leeds United this afternoon…

“We looked a threat with two up top.

“I thought they were a handful and their defender were struggling towards the end because of the presence we had up there.

“We move on and it was a massive improvement from Norwich City.”

On Remi Matthews and the second goal…

“He has been excellent since he has come into the team and it hurts to lose to a goal in that manner.

“That is the nature of football and we will backing Remi up to the hill, as he deserves.”

On taking positives into the Swansea City game next week…

“The work rate and the way that the lads have stuck to their task is particularly pleasing and can be taken into next week.

“Especially against a good team like Leeds, we have taken them to the wire and need to take great heart from that.”
