David Wheater is understood to be on the verge of joining Oldham Athletic.
The out of contract defender has been back training with Wanderers, waiting on the prospect of a new deal.
But with the wait for Football Ventures to complete their takeover of the Whites on-going, Wheater has elected to look elsewhere.
The Latics finished 14th in League Two last season and kick off the season under new head coach Laurent Banide at Forest Green Rovers on Saturday.

This will be a big blow this close to the season and he is too good for league 2 anyway.

I don't blame him naturally but not sure if it's a good move with two days to go for kickoff.
Surely they will all get paid shortly and although a rough season is ahead he would probably be club captain...and possibly more money than Oldham can pay.  We will be joining Oldham ourselves soon enough so he could have waited for some league two footy Smile
