Hi Sluffy, I hadn’t realised you’d been unwell, I haven’t been on this side of the site that much recently but had noticed you hadn’t posted much but thought nothing of it. Anyway, glad to hear you’re recovering, let’s hope the team does too? 🤗

Thanks Sluffy. £38m loss in one year!!!

I know they might have had some loss of income through COVID but I don't think they have massive matchday income to start with. How much did the dastardly Ken lose over two years in the Championship? A bit less than £5m wasn't it?

Maguire as you would suspect is on the case!

Apparently the owner has sunk over £200m of his own wealth into the club.

Complete madness in my opinion, then again if it's his money he can spend it how he likes.

I kind of use this thread for the clubs internal administration as well as the Administration we were under (which has still not been finally settled lest we forget!) but the tweet below is indicative that the FV feels it is now the right time for it to be looking to grow its backroom administrative staff and functions -

Don't know if this is the right thread to discuss it but Nixon just tweeted:

Bolton. The Swiss group in talks to put money in do things in style. Arrived for a recent game in a helicopter … landed at training ground.

Anyone know anything about this?

Fancy me not noticing that Lusty got there first. Give that man an Olympic Gold Medal or nominate him for a Roald Amundsen award

Clearly not.
Still it will be interesting to see if anything comes from it.

I'm sure our 'go to football financial advisor' will once again be ahead of the curve on this and will break the full story in due course.

PS, did you know our last owner lives in Switzerland, maybe he's got £168m burning a hole in his pocket to invest?

It says put money in not necessarily take over so surely it can only be a good thing if we get new investors?

It's hard to tell from the outside whether or not it's a sign of ambition or a sign of instability but obviously we're hoping it's the former.
From the outside it appears that Sharon is building an investable commodity and is looking to divest some of her substantial shareholding to grow the business and spread the load with but we'll have to wait and see - there's no point in speculating.
Personally I'm optimistic - even if this particular investment falls through.

I think it is positive Lusty. The hotels in good hands and the playing side is doing better than it has for years and it may be an opportune time for deeper pockets to get involved. If the likes of Wigan can attract wealthy owners then surely Wanderers are worth a punt for someone?

For what it is worth, several months ago when I was following Wigan's Administration plight, the people who ended up buying the club and becoming the new owners turned out to be Arabs and they stated their reason for buying the club was that Wigan had a huge following in that part of the world because they more or less was the only club to have had signed and played, players from there and due to the world wide coverage of the Premier League, all the people in those nations in the middle east could watch their countrymen play the likes of Man United, Chelsea, Liverpool, etc, on the telly each and every week!

...But his impact remained until March this year, when new chairman Talal Al Hammad namechecked him as being a factor in Latics first appearing on the radar of Phoenix 2021 Limited.

“Wigan Athletic is well known in our Arab region due to the presence of popular players such as Ali Al Habsi, Mido, Amr Zaki and Sam Morsy ” revealed Al Hammad.

(Al Hammad is the owner of the club - or his son/son-in-law, I can't remember exactly now).

The story I understood at the time was the Arab who bought the club, bought it as a plaything for his son (or son in law - it was never made clear which he was).

Whether that's the true reason or not I have no idea but it does fit in with the facts and I doubt Wigan really have little money problems as can be seen with the money they've spent on players and their contracts from the very first day of the takeover.

Lucky them I guess if it is all true.

'investable commodity' Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

Has it not occurred to you that FV haven't enough money to pay the debts and they can't keep kicking them down the road indefinitely?

With interest rates at current levels and not likely to rise that much Bob, I don’t think the debt is a massive problem for now and if the likes of Dapo and Rico carry on as they are, they could be sold and debts cleared very quickly putting the club in the best place it’s been in years. Promotion would be the icing on the cake but of course we mustn’t look too far ahead. I think FV are doing a first class job and despite the outstanding debt the club is in a much better place than it was and I’m sure potential investors will see that.
