Mayor of Liverpool -

Mayor of Greater Manchester

There should be an "urgent review" of 10pm closure times for restaurants and pubs, Greater Manchester's mayor says.
Andy Burnham said it meant people were gathering in homes and supermarkets that were "packed out to the rafters" once the bars closed.
Scenes of crowds forming after closing time have been filmed in UK cities including Liverpool and York.

Covid in Scotland: Police break up hundreds of house parties

Police broke up "at least" 300 house parties across Scotland over the weekend, with 14 arrests being made.

More than 100 fines were issued between Friday and Sunday, with officers having to force entry to three households.

Police Scotland said its analysis suggested house parties were being held "in every community and age group".

UK landowner fined £10k for wedding party
A landowner has been issued with a £10,000 fine for hosting a wedding party with 100 to 300 people in attendance, police said.

Police said they had received calls about the event taking place on land near New Farnley, Leeds at about 17:00 BST on Saturday.

The force said the group had been dispersed by 21:30.

One of the landowners, aged 49, was identified and issued a fine for breaching coronavirus legislation.

Ch Supt Damien Miller said it had been an "absolutely blatant breach" of the law...

People simply don't give a flying fuck do they...

Obviously the governments fault though!

To be serious for a moment, we know people won't follow the rules and we can't/wont enforcement otherwise there would be riots on the streets, so all we can do is to try and control things the best we can.

I can understand the government wanting people to go home before they get their beer googles on and give up any semblance of social distancing but that clearly didn't go to plan - I think most of us could have guessed it wouldn't anyway!

I can understand the government want the pubs and restaurants open and people spending money to keep the economy moving too!

I'm not sure what the answer is short of telling everyone who as major health issues or 70 and over to go into lockdown for however long it takes until they come up with a vaccine or similar for this.

Clearly though they've dug another hole, although a well meaning one, to expect people to go home sensibly after the pubs are shut at ten!

It was never going to happen like that was it!

Just goes to show how out of touch with reality and the British people this government is.
Anyone who had actually gone to any British city, town or even village at closing time would know exactly how young folk were likely to react.
The very reason they extended opening hours (in the 70s?) was to discourage folk from ordering 5 pints at last orders and then falling into the street.
As for "expect people to go home sensibly after the pubs shut" - a) this isn't canapes and prosecco round at Quentin and Jocasta's b) these folk are English so sensible isn't really an option and c) the HOC bar is open so hardly setting a good example.

So there'll be a supermarket sweep at 8pm?
That's as dumb as the 10pm pub thing.

Last week some protesters against the ruling went on a march, starting at the Black Bull and stopping in fourteen pubs along the way, and two kebab shops. Then they called at an off-licence and drank cans on the street until a quarter past two.
