Ian Evatt hopes his side have given fans a glimpse into the future with the standard of recent performances.

The club’s winning run may have been halted by a late equaliser at Bradford City on Saturday but the Wanderers boss hopes supporters can see the tactical progress which has been made since the end of January.

Third-placed Cambridge United are the visitors to the UniBol on Tuesday night, which will be another stern examination of Bolton’s promotion credentials.

Evatt is hoping for more of the same from a team which is still nine games unbeaten – the longest streak since Sam Allardyce’s side went on a 10-match run at the start of 2005.

“I am pleased,” Evatt told The Bolton News. “I hope you guys are enjoying it because that’s what we want to see and we hope the fans are enjoying it too.

“That’s the way the game should be played in my opinion and it’s hopefully a look at Bolton Wanderers for years to come.”

The Bradford game did provide a cautionary tale for Wanderers as a fragile one-goal lead was cancelled out in stoppage time by Danny Rowe.

Evatt takes heart from the fact there was disappointment at having only gained a point against the in-form Bantams on their own patch.

“It wasn’t so much the result or us being ahead in the game. It was just the manner of the dominance,” he said. “I thought we completely controlled the game and there was only one team looking like they were going to win it.

“When you haven’t put teams to bed, sometimes set pieces can have a bigger influence on the game. A couple of bounces of the ball and it was 1-1.

“They didn’t deserve that and the most important thing is they understand if they play like that for the rest of the season they will get what they deserve.”

Nathan Delfouneso came off the bench to score his eighth goal of the season, and his first since Boxing Day, continuing a red-hot run for Wanderers’ replacements.

Evatt admits picking a side is becoming increasingly difficult in such a competitive squad and had to leave the likes of Ben Jackson, Zack Elbouzedi, Ryan Delaney and Brandon Comley out of the 18 altogether at Valley Parade.

“We have got real competitive players all over the squad now and it’s difficult to pick teams and it’s kind of horses for courses at the moment,” he said. “Obviously we needed Lloyd (Isgrove) and Dapo (Afolayan)’s work ethic today, but there will times where Marcus (Maddison), Nathan (Delfouneso) and Arthur (Gnahoua) are going to start games and hopefully win us the games in a different kind of match. It was just the match today with the way it was going to go, we needed that energy.

“But I’m delighted with all the players, all the squad, even the ones out of it at the moment. It’s a real competitive group, it’s a real good group, it’s a real positive group and long may that continue.”

We didn't completely control the game.

We had a lot of possession but that does not give you three points. The trouble with all this passing backwards and sideways means the opposition have loads of time to create a barrier that we struggle to get through.
We keep being told we have the best striker in the League, so can we please break much sooner at speed and get the frigging ball to him.
