Ian Evatt warned potential summer signings that Wanderers will not be breaking the bank this summer.

The Bolton boss is confident he can attract quality players this month to boost his squad in League One next season.

Evatt wants a handful of fresh signings in the building by the time pre-season training begins on the first week of July but has reiterated that he will not be risking the club’s financial security by breaking his existing wage structure.

He believes, however, that there are factors which will convince top-end signings to play for the Whites which extend beyond the size of the weekly pay packet.

“We are not going to be the biggest spenders in League One and I don’t want us to be,” he said.

“Some clubs will offer more money for the players we are targeting but this football club, the fanbase, the stadium, the training ground, the way we play, that all has a value as well.

“It may not be a financial value – but there is a value to it – and players need to understand that.

“If I was one of those players and someone were to offer me £400-500 more, I’d still want to come to this club for all those reasons.”

Evatt believes last season’s promotion is a first step in getting the club back to a level he feels they belong. And furthermore, seeing supporters re-engage after some difficult years is another sign that things are moving in the right direction.

“We have done the U-turn now and hopefully heading back the right way,” he said. “It’s great for everyone to be around, and the biggest thing I can say is that the feeling around the town and the community – there’s a sense of excitement to be involved with this football club again, and that’s amazing. Long may that continue.”

"Some clubs will offer more money to the players we are targeting" isn't filling me with confidence.
