Wanderers sign up Goalkeeper Dixon

Bolton Wanderers are pleased to announce the signing of goalkeeper Joel Dixon.

The 27-year-old, who has signed a two-year deal at the University of Bolton Stadium, was previously at Barrow, where he made 195 appearances during his five years at the club.

Born in Middlesbrough, the 6ft 4in tall ‘keeper began his career with Sunderland.

During his time at the Stadium of Light, he was loaned out to Workington, Boston United, Hartlepool United, and Gateshead before joining Barrow on a permanent basis in 2015.

He was part of the Bluebirds side which, under the tutelage of Ian Evatt, returned to the Football League after a 40-year absence in 2020.

Dixon played in 46 Sky Bet League Two league games for Barrow last season but decided to turn down the offer of a new contract to link up with his former boss.

He told “It’s a new chapter in my career and I’m looking forward to starting. The size and stature of the club and where it wants to get back to is perfect for me.

“I have worked with the gaffer before at Barrow and I cannot wait to get started here.”

Manager Ian Evatt added: “Joel is a player who has played a lot for me and is someone I know and trust. He will provide good competition in the goalkeeping department and will never let anybody down.

“He’s a consistent footballer and a consistent character both on and off the pitch.”

Welcome Joel, let’s hope you make a success of your time here. There should be no problem settling in with you knowing the gaffer and his assistant and what they’re looking for. It won’t be easy displacing big Gillo but if you work hard I’m sure your chance will come. Good luck with Wanderers.
