Wanderers have had a change of heart about bringing ex-England international Phil Jagielka in to train at Lostock next week.

It was widely reported yesterday that the 38-year-old had been offered the chance to train with Bolton as he searched for a new club this summer.

Sources at Wanderers insisted the arrangement was only to help the veteran defender get back to full fitness after leaving Sheffield United at the end of last season. But after news of his impending arrival spread around social media yesterday, The Bolton News has learned there has been a change in plan and he is now unlikely to link-up with the Whites.

Jagielka is looking to continue his playing career, which began 21 years ago and includes just two clubs with spells at Sheffield United either side of a stint with Everton.

During that time he won 40 caps for his country and scored three goals, playing at the 2014 World Cup finals.

Meanwhile, Wanderers are set to make a firm decision on their upcoming training camp in Scotland after it was announced that a controversial travel ban has been lifted.

Health Secretary Humza Yousaf said the measure, which was placed on Bolton in May but later extended to the whole Greater Manchester region, was to be lifted from midnight on Tuesday after a "careful review of the data".

Wanderers had pencilled in a camp near Edinburgh next week to help integrate their new signings ahead of the first pre-season friendly at Longridge Town on July 10.

Alternative plans have been discussed and investigated within the club, but a firm decision is likely to be made in the next couple of days.
