Hip Priest wrote:Whether or not the phone call would have achieved it's aim is arguable but totally irrelevant. The reason why Raab hasn't got a leg to stand on and should resign immediately is not that he didn't make the call, but as Boris's Johnson's and the country's Foreign Secretary, when he was asked to do so, he couldn't be bothered to lift his fat lardy arse off his sun lounger on the beach in Crete to make an effort.
Tbh honest the phone call is really just a red herring, Afghan collapsed within seven days, no number of phone calls from Raab, Johnson or even the Queen would have had them saving anyone on our behalf - the story is all about Raab being absent when he shouldn't have been - he needed to cut his holiday short - he is the Foreign Secretary when all said and done and world affairs effecting our country is his job.
I thought I'd post the following below, which kind of gives an insight into the mindset of those in charge in that region - Iran shares a border with Afghanistan - it is the last sentence that is the important one but you need to read the whole article for context first -

Iran’s official death toll from Covid-19 has passed 100,000, as the Middle East’s worst-hit country struggles with a fifth wave of infections.
The health ministry reported 564 deaths over the previous 24 hours on Thursday, bringing the overall total to 100,255, state media said. The number of confirmed cases meanwhile rose by 31,266 to 4,587,683. However, experts believe the real figures are far higher.
Iran has seen a surge of infections driven by the Delta variant since late June and has reported 12,000 deaths in the past month.
On Monday, a six-day lockdown was imposed, with private travel between provinces banned and government buildings and non-essential businesses shut.
The government has also promised to step up its vaccination programme, which has seen just under 20% of the 83 million population given at least one dose.
Iran has so far relied mostly on vaccines from China and Russia.
But officials said last week that the importing of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines would be permitted, so long as they were not produced in the US or UK. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had forbidden the use of vaccines made in the two countries in Januaryhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-58266043
The country's leader would rather see his people potentially die than use the vaccines simply because it was made in the US or GB.
How can you reason with people like that?
Raab not making a phone call pales into insignificance in comparison.
