Ian Evatt insists specialist will have final say on Kieran Lee 13488176

Wanderers boss Ian Evatt remains hopeful Kieran Lee can continue playing but insists they have ample replacements should he need immediate surgery.

The midfielder has been playing through a heel injury for the last couple of months but missed Tuesday night’s defeat at Oxford.

Kieran Sadlier played in the number 10 role in Lee’s absence, making his first start for the Whites since joining from Rotherham.

Evatt admits it is a tough decision to make but insists they will go with whatever the specialist decides.

“He's had this for months now, for three months, and it’s got progressively harder to deal with,” said the Bolton boss.

“But what I will say is, the softer the ground, the more pressure goes through that heel and the harder it is for the Achilles to cope.

“We’re hopeful that there is some pain controlling methods that we can use but until we speak to the specialist, we don’t know.

“We’re going to literally leave it in the specialist’s hands – he knows best. And it’s a question of if he can get through to the summer.

“If he can, great. If he can’t, we’ll have to just move on without him. Fortunately for us, we have some players who can take his place.”

Lee has impressed for Wanderers in League One this season, getting five goals and five assists in 26 matches.

Deadline day signing Kyle Dempsey can also play in the number 10 role and did so after coming off the bench at Oxford last weekend.
