I was thinking the other day about bands and musicians I used to love, but grew, in time, to hate.

Off the top of my head I can think of Roxy Music, a band I saw live at the Hardrock in Manchester, and raved about for a couple of years, then went sour on them after a couple of albums.

Gilbert O'Sullivan, a singer/songwriter who used to dress like a kid from a Hovis advert, but was a nice wordsmith, until it all seemed to fall apart.

Leo Sayer, another man with a gimmick, this time dressing as a clown. First saw him on The Old Grey Whistle Test, and was very impressed for a while. Then, he too, seemed to lose the plot.

There are more I'm sure. I'll have a think.

I was a proper music snob when i was younger. I was an NME reader and loved getting into bands at the start and then hating them when they started getting bigger and more well known.

I have this t-shirt that i wear to gigs now  Very Happy

UB40 spring to mind. Their debut LP "Signing Off" which I can still listen to now and genuinely love, seemed like the perfect antidote to Thatcher's austerity nightmare of the early 80's. But what followed, OMG. Talk about misplaced faith and selling out.

There are so many that started off well and then traded in their creativity for the money.
In the early 70s I saw Shakin' Stevens and the Sunsets who were a full on Rock and Roll band banging out high intensity Jerry Lee type songs and putting on a fantastic show - couldn't believe the crap they ended up putting out.
