Forrester - 'Great on the ball' - Evatt pleased with Forrester impact 17055427

Wanderers boss Ian Evatt wasn't surprised to see "composed" Will Forrester get on the scoresheet against West Brom.

Forrester, who joined from Port Vale earlier this summer, beat Josh Griffiths with a clinical finish across goal during the second half.

Kyle Dempsey bagged a brace against the Baggies, with Aaron Morley also getting on the scoresheet as the Whites completed an unbeaten pre-season.

“Will is great with the ball,” said Evatt. “He’s really composed, he’s not uncomfortable in those areas.

"I am not surprised to see that (goal), to be honest.”

Former Bolton striker Eion Doyle announced his retirement from the professional game at the age of 35 last week.

Evatt played alongside Doyle and then brought him to Wanderers after taking charge at the club in the summer of 2020.

The forward scored 19 goals the following season as the Whites won promotion from League Two at the first time of asking.

He headed to St Patrick’s Athletic in January 2022 to finish his career in the League of Ireland, playing alongside Harry Brockbank and Bolton loanee Conor Carty.

Evatt only had positive things to say about his experiences working with Doyle, both on the pitch and in the changing room.

“Doyler was someone I played with and managed,” he added. “He was an incredible player and an incredible person, and I can’t speak highly enough of everything he achieved in his playing career.

“He still has a huge amount to offer the game. He is still hugely additive to what we are doing here and we are hopefully going to continue that partnership moving forward.

“He was a wonderful player and he’s a wonderful person. I wish him and his family well and congratulate him on a phenomenal career.”
