I used to have a stylophone (the original pocket organ!).
That's how cool I was. I had a stylophone a Blue Peter badge, and was a member of the school chess club.

I did all that at Smithills + Violin lessons and Computer Club (wherein we all sat round a BBC Micro watching Nige Lee programming in swear words - well worth wasting your dinner hour to finally see "Tits!" scrolling down the screen. Oh how we laughed!)

I begged my Dad to let me drop the violin lessons, as they clashed with football practice.

He kept saying no until I shouted at him: "I haven't even got a bow! All they let me do is pluck it and that's shit!"

I got a slap for swearing but at least I could pack the violin in and start playing football again.

I had a violin aged 7. It was confiscated after three days.
Good job too. It was a rough area.
Anyone with two ears on our estate was a cocker spaniel.
