Paul Dickov reflected on a first-half header that bounced off the post as a turning point for his side in their 3-0 defeat at the Reebok.

Theo Robinson’s 19th-minute close shave with the scores goalless could have set the game off on a very different tone, if not prevented a defeat admitted the Doncaster Rovers boss.

“It’s a defining moment in the game and if that had gone in then it could have been different,” he said.

“But I certainly don’t feel that we should have won the game. Even at that point when we hit the post, Bolton were by far the better of the two teams.

“I felt that we just looked a little leggy today having played a lot of games in quick succession.”

Doncaster had shown some improvement of late, rising into mid-table with a run of two wins and two draws in their last five outings.

“I think we dropped way below the standards that we have set ourselves recently,” Dickov said.

“Bolton came out on the front foot and we sat off them way too much, especially in the first half.

“The game was being played in one half early on.

Overall, we looked a little bit leggy and half a yard short.

“I’m not going to say that we deserved to get anything out of the game because we didn’t. Maybe it might have been that we have had five games in 14 days with the same group of players, maybe it could had been one game too far in a short space of time with a small group.”

“We are striving to get consistency, not just results but performances as well. We just have to keep positive.”
