Bolton Wanderers Under-18s bounced back from their FA Youth Cup exit in memorable fashion as they came from behind to secure a 6-4 victory over Liverpool.

Making a number of changes to the side that lost to Crewe Alexandra in midweek, the young Whites started well and took an early lead through a Nathaniel Phillips header.

Liverpool equalised before an equaliser saw the Reds take the lead, however Bolton fought back as a second goal from Phillips as well as further strikes from Carl Kennedy and William Abbotts saw them hold a 4-2 lead at the break.

Despite seeing Liverpool pull a goal back from the penalty spot, Channing Campbell-Young restored two-goal difference before Enock Likoy-Elumba extended the Trotters’ lead further.

And despite Liverpool scoring a late consolation, Wanderers held on to secure all three points.

Speaking after the final whistle, Whites head coach David Lee said: “It was a fantastic reaction from the lads after the disappointment of midweek.

“We started the game well and played some excellent football in spells. The win could have been more convincing if it had not been for some last-ditch defending from Liverpool.

“Overall it was a very good performance from the lads. They all responded very well and we are very pleased with both the result and the performance.”
