While Aston Villa have countered some of their attacking problems this month with the £3.25 million signing of Carles Gil from Valencia, Paul Lambert’s side remain desperate for creative reinforcements.
With 11 goals from 22 matches, at an average of 0.5 per game, the West Midlands outfit are on course to be the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]’s lowest-ever scorers, while their shot conversion rate of just 5% and 168 created chances are also division-worst figures.
Efforts are being made to resolve the issue, with the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]reporting that a deal for Manchester City winger [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is back on after initial talks broke down over the £3 million valuation, but his dramatic plight over the past few seasons suggests there will be no guarantees of production at Villa Park.
Instead, one feasible alternative, who has been putting in impressive showings in recent months, is [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] wide man Lee Chung-Yong.
The South Korea international has been in excellent form for [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] since the arrival of manager Neil Lennon in October, helping fire his side up the table with a string of influential performances from both the right flank and a central role.
Out of contract in the summer, he is understood to be holding off talks in the hopes of a Premier League move this month, per the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], and Lennon has admitted that he could be forced to cash in on his star man’s signature.
"We're still hoping we can convince him to stay [but] that's looking less and less likely,” he told [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] earlier this month.

"He's 26 and I think he wants to play at a higher level - I understand that. From a club point of view, if he is going to go, then it's important we get the right price for him."
Recovering from a hairline fracture picked up at the Asian Cup, Lee has been linked to a number of top-flight clubs in recent weeks, with the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] naming Crystal Palace and Stoke City as his likeliest destinations, although the former have baulked at his £30,000-per-week wage demands.
Fiorentina are also said to be contenders in the event of Juan Cuadrado’s potential departure to Cheslea, with a reported price tag of just £1.5 million standing out as real bargain on the market.
That in mind, given his asking price, age, talent and pedigree, it would make perfect sense for Villa to make a run at the Bolton attacker during the closing stages of the transfer window.
The claret and blues need another natural option out wide after being forced to make-do with Gabby Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann for far too long, and he would certainly prove a perfect fit in the current line-up.

"He wants to play at a higher level"

Complete bollocks, he'd be happy to stay if we weren't offering reduced terms. Never had chungy down as a money grabber but I guess I can understand it...

Who wrote this crap? I'm guessing the West Midlands version of the BN.

Nothing from either club to report but the journo gets a story on the back of speculating "one possible solution might be..."

i'm thinking of becoming a journalist.

The hole in the ozone layer is said to have been caused by pollution but one possible solution is that it is a portal created to transport Lee Chung Yong of Bolton Wanderers Football Club to The 3rd Dimension Barclays (They even sponsor leagues not of this planet) Premier league.  Several Clubs are offering 42,000 anal probes (The currency of the third dimension) and this is et to increase as a bidding war continues.  Chung Yong Lee will be the tallest player in the 3rd dimension by about 4 and a half feet, initially they where after Connor Wilkinson but the 3rd dimension secret spy has sdaid he is too light weight.  The 3rd dimension secret spy is easliy spotted by her wonky upper body features, distinct burning smell from her lower region and extremely deep speaking tones.

His agent will be pimping him out to everyone. I would be surprised if no one picks him up. I don't give a shit anymore. If he is going though it will be bang on the deadline so we can do sod all with the funds probably.

The Mail article says the asking price is £1million - substantially less than previously cited. Raises questions about whether or not it's worthwhile meeting his salary demands if that's all we'd get for him as it would cost more to get a replacement of similar quality.

Also says his salary is £22k - not 30k a week previously reported to be the deal breaker with Palace.

Saying we are trying to offload him for £500-000 I'd rather keep him and have a better chance at making the top 6 £500-000 is peanuts we have already offloaded Spearing so there's a saving.
Eddie Davies you won't be getting a statue built of you,you hard nosed twat.
That guy at Wolves threw £60 million in of his own money n passed it on for a tenner.
Saved Wolves from extinction. He deserves a statue as his legacy to Wolves.

All we ever hear is how many years we have to pay the twat back once he's dead.

Funny how a Thai consortium bought Sheff W.No one will ever buy us with ED going on about his £165 million.
We own the ground, the hotel, the land around it and there's the massive £100 million expansion been given the go ahead. You can't take it with you Eddie, write the debt off and we will build a lovely statue to go with Nats( not Whittams).Lofthouse.
Still think you'll have £100 million.Sure your not going to be nipping to the food bank any time soon.

Davies is prepared to write off the debt to the right buyer, the simple fact is no one wants to buy the club - how is that the owners fault?

He's made mistakes (Gartside being his biggest) but he's put millions of his own money into the club - how much have you invested?

What is it with football fans that they are of the opinion that owners / chairman are obliged to spend every last penny on their clubs. Their role should be one of stewardship, football clubs should all live within their means, they earn plenty of money from TV and gate receipts etc
