Always  thought he was a Yorkshireman.

He was.

Never trust a politician!

(I think Manda's got mixed up with Horatio Nelson who lived on Pierrpoint Street, Bath for a short while).

Nooooo! Honestly it's in guidebooks and everything! Nelson lived there, around the corner from one of Jane Austens gaffs, but Pierrepoint was from there, who are these Yorkshire folk claiming him? And no I'm not confused, I know the difference between Nelson and a hangman, I may be a politician (yuk) but I'm not UKIP! *waits for the abuse

Two minutes of Googling has unearthed the fact that his uncle Thomas was executioner of choice for the US military based in England during the war and he carried out several executions for them in Shepton Mallet which is in Zummerzet and isn't a million miles from Bath.

Could it be him that we're thinking of?

I can categorically state we are a Brucie free zone, there may even be a bye law preventing his entry

Back to the main topic, a long time ago, in a v boring job, we regularly played the 'last meal' game. Let's face it, at that stage you aren't interested in calories or cholesterol! We spent hours refining our last menu, starters, main course, pudding (I went for cheese rather than sweet).some wanted their Mums lasagne or the like, but we had to point out, if you are on death row, your family may well be a bit miffed with you. As a side note, a colleague became seriously ill, and the night before she was admitted to a hospice, we cooked her favourite foods and took them round. She managed a teaspoon of banoffee pie, couldn't face anything else, I think of her when I eat a banana, food has powerful associations

Yes Bonce, yes I am! And if you ever want to hear my heartwarming, gently amusing, personal anecdote about Brucie, you better had too!

I'm pretty sure that Bert spent his retirement years living in Styal in Cheshire? I read somewhere that there was a pub in Cheshire that he frequented and was just a short walk from his house because he had never learnt to drive.
