Anybody been watching BBC's Best Part-Time Band show?

Basically it run over four programmes  - the first three of which were to find the best two regional amateur bands of any genre (rock, punk, folk, reggae, anything at all really) - with the fourth show being the final the six competed in.

I really enjoyed the series and were pleasantly surprised at how good the three regional 'judges' (Midge Ure, Peter Hook and Jazzy B) were.

I don't really watch a lot of music - as my lack of contribution to this thread probably testifies - but I really enjoyed the series.

Going old school tonight

Tried explaining that 20,000 died on the first day to my nephew today when he asked me about it.

He simply couldn't comprehend the numbers involved.

And if I'm honest, neither could I.

It's always been one of those facts that you know but you never really think about.

Very, very sobering when you put it in context.

A healthy sized football ground gone in 4 hours.

Incomprehensible in modern terms.

I played Sir John French, A Serbian Spy and Stretcher Bearer No 3 in our production of it at Smithills in 1986.

And it helped to form my Socialist views back then.

And it's stuck with me.
