Sir Bruce Forsyth Organising Nepal Charity Ball Cegrab-20150521-122731-186-1-762x428

Sir Bruce Forsyth is organising a charity ball to raise money for victims of the Nepal earthquakes.

The former Strictly Come Dancing presenter told Sky's Eamonn Holmes he was so moved by the events that he wanted to do something to help.

"It was one of the most awful tragedies I think to have ever happened. Why does it always happen to a poor country?", he said.

Sir Bruce, 87, will be organising the event with businessman Surinder Arora.

Planning for the ball is in the early stages but it is thought it will take place later this year at a hotel in London.

Powerful earthquakes on 25 April and 12 May killed at least 8,622 people and damaged 756,000 houses and other buildings in Nepal and parts of India.

Sir Bruce, who defied his age by dressing in a baseball cap and bomber jacket on the Sunrise programme, said he is almost more busy now than he was before he stopped dancing on Strictly.
