Should the TT be allowed to continue without intervention?

Tinned Toms - You know it makes sense!

The TT has been going something like 108 years now and there have been 141 deaths in that time, the latest being this unfortunate chap.

http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/motorsport/33001908

Considering how fatally dangerous this race clearly is do the government or organisers or whoever have a responsibility to cancel these races altogether or should people just be allowed to enter at their own risk knowing full well they might not make it out alive?

Personally, if the spectators are in no danger, I think you should probably make your own decision on endangering your life.

Is it any different to endangering your life in other daft ways? I'm not sure.

Averaging 2 deaths per year is pretty bad though you have to say.

Thoughts?

Should probably have checked to see if there was already a thread for this. Apologies.

No apology needed.

Everybody ignored my thread last time, so I'm just glad somebody else is interested in the TT.  Very Happy

Have you watched any of the Northern Irish road racing stuff on YouTube?

The Ulster GP and the North West 200 are mental.

It's all the TT boys racing round Norn Iron at ridiculous speeds and it's even scarier than the TT because there's no staggered start, so they're wheel to wheel for a lot of it.

Doing 200 mph.......

I've watched some of the North west 200 and it is indeed a bit mental but that's one of the attractions of it for me in a morbid sort of way. Watching it whilst knowing something really bad could happen at any minute gives it a proper edge. I do like watching people do crazy stuff that could end in disaster, stuff I would never have the balls to do myself.

Have you watched Closer To The Edge?

If not, I recommend it heartily.

Funnily enough I was gonna watch it last night but the missus wanted to watch fast and furious 6, which I wasn't against tbh. Fast 7 tonight and I'm gonna give it a go tomorrow I think.

It's a brilliant film if you're into your road racing.

It was filmed the year Guy Martin had his "incident" at 170mph which resulted in this. (That's his foot in the bottom right corner, by the way):

TT is quality. My dad took me when I was younger and I've loved it ever since.

Guy Martin looked sharp in qualifying earlier this week on his new BMW.

Could this be the bike that finally gets him his first TT win?

I went 3 times when I was younger, 57, 69 and 70.
Don't remember 57 but the other 2 were brilliant, and bought LZ 2 in Douglas!!
