Spanish striker Sergi Enrich has revived talk he could be heading to the Macron Stadium next season by claiming Wanderers have made him an offer.

The 25-year-old, joint top scorer in the Segunda Division last season with 16 goals for Numancia, was watched closely by Neil Lennon and his staff during April and May.

It appeared the Whites boss had dropped his interest altogether until this week, when the out-of-contract Sergi announced in the Spanish press he was considering an opportunity at Bolton.

While Wanderers sources remain sceptical about his claims, the former Mallorca star admits English football does appeal to him.

“We were given the proposal some time ago, and even met. Personally I quite liked the offer but there are also others in Spain, and like it or not, the league (Championship) is an exciting competition,” he said of the Whites’ apparent interest on Spanish television channel IB3.

Meanwhile, Wanderers have passed on the opportunity to sign Dutch defender Nick Kuipers from MVV Maastricht.

The 22-year-old came in for a trial at the Macron at the start of the year and impressed Lennon.

Although out of contract at the end of the season, it is thought a compensation fee was pre-agreed between the two clubs, with a view to completing the deal and discussing personal details in the summer.

But Wanderers backed off the idea of signing the 6ft 3ins centre half, who has now penned a two-year deal to remain with MVV.

Whether the decision was motivated by the apparent lack of funds available to Lennon at present is currently unclear.

Kuipers has earned some rave reviews in the Dutch league, where has made 115 appearances and scored two goals for his current club to date.

Lennon wants another centre-half on board before the start of the season but seems bound to the free transfer and loan market for options, which makes last week’s disappointment in seeing long-term target Craig Morgan sign for Wigan Athletic all the more acute.

Kuipers may well remain on the manager’s radar, with his coach Ron Elsen predicting he will move on to bigger and better things.

“He’s made enormous development in recent seasons but he is still not at his peak,” he said in the Dutch press. “We expect him to improve and based on his work so far, will think he will.”

Have you seen Kuipers or Enrich play Lust?

Pointless speculating about Kuipers, given that the article clearly states that the club have ended their interest in him.

Haven't seen either "in the flesh" - just going off what my mates say, one of whom supports Ajax and lives in Rotterdam and another supports Real Madrid but lives in Leon which is close to Soria where Numancia play. I've known one for 40 years and the other for 30 odd years and they are both good judges of players IMO. I have a few other mates around the world who I can ask about players if I want to and they've never given me reason to doubt their judgment - apart from once when I asked about Mario Jardel although one mate did qualify his gushing praise by saying "he may be a bit over the hill now and there are rumours he's a bit of a nutter" - which turned out to be the understatement of the year. Same guy recommended Borgetti which I thought was a great call despite him not getting a proper chance IMO. I liked Borgetti.
FWIW Enrich is considered to be slightly lightweight for this division so may be ineffectual although mate thought Kuipers would have done a good job. Guess we'll never know now.
