Summers here and I/we like getting out, enjoying the fresh air and open spaces.

Wnen I was younger, in Bolton, my favourite Parks were.

Moss Bank.
Leverhulme.
Tonge Park.

Lately discovered Worden Park Leyland think its absolutely brilliant.

Whats yours

Moss Bank Park was always the best with the animal zoo, the mini train, tennis courts and pitch and putt. Also used to go to Queens Park as well but didn't have as much going on as Moss Bank. I also used to go to a small park just off Halliwell Road called Tootles Park, it was great for playing football or cricket on and had a good hill for winter and sledging.

Spent my youth on Shepherd Cross Street playing fields.
Three football pitches, hockey pitch for five a side and a hill for going down on a car bonnet. Happy days!!!

Top Level, I hope.

We didn't associate with those rough boys on the Bottom Level from Oxford Grove.....

Leverhulme - used to love it when they did the Bolton show.
Old station park (Horwich) - Had a astro turf football pitch so was great!
Not a park, but used to love exploring Rivington, going to that castle next to the reservoir and swimming in the ressy.

I learnt to bat against the short ball by facing my Dad (off his long run) on the concrete "changing strip" between the two football pitches on the top level.

He started off with a tennis ball (which still hurt if you got it wrong) and then graduated onto a corky.

All of which stood me in good stead when I started playing proper cricket at Smithills and for Heaton.

Cheers Dad - I might have cried a lot and complained to Mum at the time but I now see why you did it.

Not sure if you know but the castle ruins that are there are fake mock ones, it was a replica. Smile

Tinned Toms - You know it makes sense!

Queens park, moss bank Park, Rivington and Barrow bridge were popular places for me when I was a kid. Spent a lot of time around Shepherd cross Street fields as well as I went to St josephs primary school next to the top field. The hill was great for sledging in winter and rolling down in summer. Happy days.
