Fans will get the vote on whether to press ahead with a Supporters’ Trust at a special meeting on Wednesday night at the Macron Stadium.

Ex-Wanderers skipper Kevin Davies is one of the confirmed attendees, along with a senior representative of Supporters Direct, who have helped set up similar operations aimed at gaining influence in the running and ownership of their clubs.

A statement from the BWFCST working group explained why specialist help has been sought.

“Should there be a consensus to form a Supporters’ Trust, Supporters Direct will be enlisted for their extensive experience and will assist with the process of trust formation.

“The presence of SD at the meeting will allow them to fully explain what a trust is and how it can function in a professional football club.”

Anyone can come on the night, although fans are being asked to confirm their seat on bwfcst.co.uk via their Eventbrite meeting page.

Davies, who was a guest of the club in Saturday’s defeat to Huddersfield Town, is looking forward to learning more about how a trust could benefit Wanderers, admitting the idea is “gaining momentum”.

“(I) will be at the meeting on Wednesday night to find out more about how a supporters’ trust is run,” he tweeted.

The meeting, which starts at 7pm in the Platinum Suite, will be chaired by BBC Radio Manchester’s Jack Dearden and blogged live on The Bolton News website for those who cannot attend on the night.
