How the mighty have fallen!

Rangers' "newco" have been voted into Division Three following a meeting of Scottish Football League clubs, BBC Scotland understands.

SFL chief executive David Longmuir is expected to give a media conference within the next 10 minutes.

The Scottish Football Association and Scottish Premier League had offered a reorganisation of the structure if Rangers were placed in Division One.

But a majority of the 30 SFL clubs said they should start in the bottom tier.

Dunfermline, Elgin City, Peterhead, Arbroath, Alloa Athletic, Berwick Rangers, Annan Athletic, East Fife and Clyde had all said in the days leading to the meeting that they would vote for the Division Three option.

Before Scotland's governing bodies agreed their package of proposals, First Division clubs Cowdenbeath, Falkirk, Livingston, Morton, Partick Thistle and Raith Rovers had all indicated they would be against Rangers playing in the second tier.

Third Division clubs Queen's Park and Stirling Albion were similarly minded, while Stranraer suggested that Rangers should be required to apply for admission to the bottom tier along with other interested non-league clubs.

That meant there are a potential 18 votes for Rangers being refused admission to Division One - a majority of the SFL's 30 clubs.

Only Second Division outfit Stenhousemuir have gone public with an intention to vote for Rangers in the second tier.

Charles Green's Sevco consortium was forced to apply for entry to the SFL after SPL clubs voted against the new Rangers being admitted to the top flight with the old company destined for liquidation.

More to follow.

I love this story. Some of those clubs in SPL3 are in for a windfall when Rangers come to town.

Going to cause massive problems though as most of the grounds in that division only have less than 5,000 capacity.

One as a capacity of 52,000 though - can anyone guess it without looking it up?

Interesting article here -

It's reckoned that some of the clubs won't be able to afford the police bill when they play against Rangers.

I never knew Queens Park played at Hampden Park! There will be full houses every weekend at one venue in Div 3.
