Jay Spearing has been chosen as Bolton Wanderers' Player of the Month for August 2016 by the club's supporters.

Figuring prominently throughout the opening month of the campaign, the midfielder took the captain's armband in the absence of the injured Darren Pratley and scored twice, once against Sheffield United and also versus Bristol Rovers.

Supporters voted for the award on Facebook, with the Liverpudlian collecting the majority of votes submitted.

He's been a lot better this season, but he does tend to pick up daft bookings hence his suspension - something he needs to sort out.

I was just going to say the same, I love the wholehearted committed approach he has but 5 bookings so early in the season is ridiculous.

I am just glad that we have retained him as I don't think that we would be topping the league without him.

He seems to have found his level in League One.

Incredibly disappointing considering he was seen as a top Championship - maybe even Premiership - player when we bought him, but that's the reality of it now.
