As this thread appears only to be garnering tentative, slightly uncertain views and no responses (probably down to the vague, ambiguous nature of its title and content), I'd just like to clarify that the "it" in question isn't "Whittam's bed", nor is it "Bogger's face".

It is, in fact "booze".

I personally don't trust anyone who doesn't have a beer or six on a Friday because they've either not worked hard enough all week or are just plain weird.

(Vimto / Chocolate milk doesn't count so don't bother trying to argue that they do because I've never heard anyone say: "Oh yeah, that chocolate milk's really hit the spot" after a hard day's graft.)

I'm on a soda bread cheese butty, and a big mug of tea. Just bought and printed three tickets for the match tomorrow because little bro has decided to get off his arse again. Got a lift though. cheers

I'm now looking forward to 'Still Game' BBC1 at 9.30.

At which point, I will pour myself a glass of Kilbeggan Irish whiskey, and,an hour or two later, with my

chin sinking ever deeper into my chest,I'll awake with a start, and, with all the grace and majesty of

The Queen Mary,I'll slide impressively from my armchair, landing with barely a sound,on the hearth

rug,where I'll remain until at least 3am.

But chocolate milk does hit the spot.  And nothing better than having a kid either side of you watching (an illegally doenloaded) finding dory to finish a 50 hour week in which ive done over 1300 miles in driving.

On the diet coke now.  Didnt have pepsi max.  Gutted Sad

I'm back.

Having endured a film on Sky Cinema called The Taking.

Faux "found footage" shite which made your average episode of Scooby Doo look like cinema verite in comparison.

Only ninety minutes long (thankfully) but an endurance event nonetheless.

I've just had a look at IMDB to gauge the popular response and it appears that I'm out of step with the consensus view because it scored 6/10 which is about 4 more than it deserved in my opinion.

I'm generally shit at predicting how films are going to unfold but I had this pile of shite pegged from about 10 minutes in.

Young hungry film student making a documentary - Check.

Creepy house in the backwoods as a setting - Check.

Odd familial characters introduced who will turn out to be central to the plot later on - Check.

Everything seems normal and benign initially but turns a bit odd quite quickly - Check.

Arguments between the main character and her appointed subortinate (the camera guy and his mate) after they start to see some "inexplicable shit" happening which she conveniently dismisses as something which can easily be rationally explained, despite the fact that it's patently not - Check

(A levitating old lady who sheds her skin like a reptile in this case.)

Peripheral characters who die about two minutes after they make their screen bow - Check.

Plenty of having to enter attics / basements with lightbulbs which don't work - Check.

Said attics / basements contain several high backed chairs / tables which are all bizarrely draped completely in white sheets (like ghosts!) because they are "in storage" and, more importantly, create the opportunity for the main mentalist character to pop up unexpectedly in one of those "Look left: no one there, look right: no one there either, look left again and suddenly there's an old lady holding a hammer" type shots - Check.

More random people die in various contrived ways - Check.

The old lady gets sooo close to completing the evil plan which was put in her head by the demonic possessor from the nether realm but gets saved at the last minute by being punched in the face and the other main characters carrying out some frankly tenuous ritual which they learnt about three minutes ago after googling "the great scandal of Small Town X 30 years ago"- Check.

And everyone lives happily ever after - Check.

Apart form a seemingly peripheral child character who interacted with the old lady briefly and who pops up again just before the credits to smile evilly into camera and suggests that the bad spirit's not quite gone away.........

Just in case enough people are daft enough not to completely slag this shit off and it spawns a franchise.

Which it won't (despite the IMDB ratings) because it was shit.

I get one Friday night a week and I pay Sky £120 a month to keep me entertained.

And the fuckers failed this week.

But I saw that coming when I looked at the schedules earlier and that's why I decided to resort to the booze.

And this critique has in no way been influenced by the alcohol I have consumed tonight.

Because it was a shit film and it will remain ever thus even when I'm sober.

Tory Brexit bastards.....!

This got me thinking about films that genuinely scared me.

And I had to go back as far as 'Psycho'.

Bread, you did well to get to the end of that bollocks.

Alcohol doesn't taste nice, or certainly no better than any soft drink.

So why would anyone drink at home?

I get it in a social environment like a pub or club, but at home it just smacks of wanting to dull the pain of your life.
