Jon Flanagan is determined to help Bolton Wanderers finish the season strongly after settling in well into life at Macron Stadium.

The Liverpool loanee joined the Whites on January transfer deadline day and has made a total of six appearances to date, starting all of Bolton's last five matches.

With the Trotters' tasting defeat in each of their last two outings against Leeds United and Birmingham City, the defender is focussed on helping Wanderers bounce back against Derby County on Saturday.

Hungry to contribute as much as possible to help secure the Whites' place in the Sky Bet Championship next season, the 25-year-old shared how he's been impressed by what he's seen during his time at BL6 so far.

“I’m really enjoying it so far to be honest,” Flanagan told bwfc.co.uk. “The lads have made me feel really welcome since I arrived.

“I came here with the mentality of playing as many games as I can, to get as fit as possible and then we’ll see what happens from there, but first things first, I want to help Bolton to remain in this division.

“I’d been here with Liverpool before and was always impressed with the stadium, the set-up and the fans and how they got behind their team.

“The fans have been brilliant and definitely played their part, especially on our travels in recent weeks when they’ve travelled in their numbers.”

The versatile defender, nicknamed the ‘Scouse Cafu’, believes he has the type of mentality needed for the run-in, with six crucial games left between now and May 6.

“Nothing really affects me and you can’t let it in this game,” he said.

“I think I’ve got the perfect mentality for the kind of battle that we find ourselves in and along with the rest of the boys, I’m ready for the fight.

“Our destiny is well and truly in our own hands and we’ve just got to keep on plugging away to make sure we’re a Sky Bet Championship team come the final day of the season.

“We want to make sure that we head into that final stretch of games with everything wrapped up and we’re determined to finish as strongly as we possibly can.

“Everybody just wants to be out there in the white shirt and we’re all hungry to be crossing that white line on a weekend.”
